I've got a stock rebuilt 302 (carbed) out of an 88 (E8SE)
I plan to go E303 cam, and gt40/p heads

*Do u guys recommend using 1.7 or 1.6 roller rockers?

*what springs do u guys recommend using for an e303 cam?

I'm thinking about comp cam 44308-1 valve springs

e cam IMO is a poor choice. I would go with either a TFS1 or Anderson n41 and whatver springs they recommend. For rockers, I would go with 1.6.

Agree with Mike. I know Anderson has a high rev spring kit also.

Most your camshafts are based off 1.6 rockers. So if a manufacture gives specs of said cam, and says that it will fit stock pistons, adding 1.7s may cause interference issues.

Obviously, some cams will be designed for 1.7s, Anderson has 1 or 2. Also, the use of aftermarket pistons may allow for 1.7s to be used. I ran 1.7s with my gt40s and anderson n41 cam, but I had the appropriate valve springs and aftermarket SRS pistons.

I'd say 1.6.
Valve stability is key and far more important than possibly a tiny bit of extra flow that 1.7's allow. I ran both 1.6/1.7 on my gt40p's and I couldn't tell a difference other than the 1.6 were quieter. Dyno tests on N/A 5.0's don't really show any gains either.

Yes, just remember that the stock heads use pedestal mount rockers, not stud mount. When I ran the n41, I asked greg anderson about running it with 1.7s on stock pistons. He told me there was no way it would work. I ended up needing an over bore and bought nice pistons, which had deeper reliefs. But yes, you will be fine with 1.6s.

1.6 is the stock ratio, so if they don't work, you have other issues. Whatever cam you end up with, look up a spec card and buy springs based on the required spring rates for that cam.

Buying springs thinking they'll work for most applications is an expensive lesson in futility. (Ask me how I know.)

Take this for what it is worth. I would not bother swapping out cams if you are leaving the stock heads. Just leave the stock cam and put a set of 1.7 rockers in. You will get around the same lift as a B cam with better LSA and idle.
