1.6 RR's stock Valve covers

Just like the title says, can I run aftermarket 1.6's and use my stock valve covers or do I need to modify them? thanks

they should clear, but im not positive. Rotate your engine with valve covers loose and just sitting down on the head, if they pick up then they need more clearance.I clearanced mine with a die grinder and they clear even though my are 1.70's stud mount!

my ped mount 1.7s clear the stock valve cover without having to do any modifications.

STOCK rockers are 1.6...so yes...duh. And most 1.7's will clear, if not, then you just cut the baffles.

I've had instances where stock VC's off one engine fit without needing to modify the oil baffle (which is simple to do, if you are making contact it will leave a slight mark in the anodizing on the rocker arm, usually on #1 cylinder), and another stock set didn't - I believe changes were made to the design of the casting from year to year (die cast aluminum covers I'm referring to). One thing that helps is using a thicker cork gasket versus the reusable metal & rubber gasket - It will give you slightly more clearance and in my opinion isolated the valve train sounds slightly better. I use Comp Pro Magnums and they fit after I took out the baffle. I also used rubber valve cover gaskets

I am having a hell of a time getting my Scorpion stud mount 1.6rr to clear my stock covers.

thats because, no matter if you have 1.6's or 1.7's when you go to comp cams or anyother brand its all different. Like buying tires after putting on different rims.....they aren't all the same, no matter who says "they didnt have problems" or who says "they did have problems". Pedistal mount rockers are larger, and stick up farther than bolt downs! HOWEVER, if you take out all the webbing under the valve covers and the baffles....they will clear.....here is a few pictures to prove it!

bolt down or stud mount (I call the stud mount pedistal mount, but that could be considered bolt down...to some)

I have bolt down frpp 1.6 rr's on my car with a comp cam, they work fine under stock valve covers, never had any trouble.

Ben was right, I had to remove all the reinforcements and then some to get the Scorpions to clear. Not sure how true this is, but I've heard the 92-93 valve covers don't have the reinforcements. I would look for some of them, grinding those things out was a PITA.

It isn't that simple. The different companies and designs of the 1.6 roller rockers are different. The ratio doesn't mean the size/clearance of the rocker to the valve cover.

I used the 1.7 Crane/Cobra RR's on my stock engine and had to trim the oil baffle with 93 valve covers with OEM gaskets. I used 1.6 stud-mounted RR's (Scorpions) with cork gasket and removed the oil baffle completely so they would clear.

I use currently "EFI Cobra Valve Covers" (aftermarket) with a rubber gasket (I like) and clear the 1.6 RR's after some mold trimming.

Curse, my 93 valve covers don't have "reinforcements"...better clearance. Easier on the grinder

What didn't I use is a better question. What worked best for me was an air grinder for the easy to get at spots, a Dremel tool with an aluminum oxide grinding wheel(buy a lot of these, they run out fast) for the hard to get at spots and a metal cutting bit for the Dremel for the impossible to get at spots.

I wish I had known, I would have looked for a set, or gotten a set of aftermarket covers from the get-go.

I used an oem type gasket and removed the baffle with my FRPP 1.6's. Works great without issues.
