1-D-1 Shuffle

So i swore i would never do it for the sake of my tranny...well today i tried it out and now can't stop...I give my tranny a week if i keep it up.......i cant imagine what i'll be doin to her after i get the converter, gears, and shift kit.....oh by the way in that can i beat these imports thread i know there is alot of smack talking goin on especially about AODs......dont hate the AOD.....so there slow, heavy and sluggish stock...but their in our "Darling Mustangs" which we love.....

Anyways AODs can be beastly with the right mods juss like a 5-speed

lol a little broad on that statement there buddy.

Yea, I guess so.. let me rephrase that...

A properly Build AOD will outperform any t-5 in a 1/4 mile PERIOD :)

wasnt thinking about autocross and the like... in which case an auto wouldnt be ideal. but in drag racing... an auto is the way to go.

didnt mean to start another debate thread guys....hahaha...anyways 90 Red Lx i believe it depends on the shift kit you buy....but i dont think the actually shift kits do anything to the shift pattern of the AOD they just firm up the shifts....if you wanted to change the actually shift pattern which i eventually will do u would want to go with a manual valvebody like a Lentech. You then would have a shift pattern as follows: 1=1 D=2 OD=3 and then you can flip a toggle switch with the selector in the OD positioin to have the transmission act like a normal AOD.

It's great for consistancy, anyway. Some people don't race brackets and/or their cars aren't so fast as to require an auto, so it doesn't really make much of a difference.

Me, I have an AOD still. I'm afraid to do the 1D1 without letting off the gas a bit. Once the boost is there, the car is beastly.

I used to run a stock AOD, swapped to t5, always hated and talked **** on the AOD, now i respect the AOD, they are pretty cool....

makes for a easy DD, just pop it in gear and go, and while not potent in stock form. A simple shift kit and stall works WONDERS. I have rode in my friends old AOD, had a stock engine, 3k stall and shift kit, 5lb SC with gears, it was pretty stout....

Sometimes i think of what it would it have been like if i still had my AOD, i wouldnt mind starting a small AOD build, if i had the money haha

MUWHAHA!! AOD lovers rise and unite!!!
kevin I do know of a few chrysler cars that this will work in, but overall, I'd say a bad idea to just try in random vehicles. Hell, on second thought, try it on everything you got and let us know.

Does the 1-D-1 shuffle still need to be performed after a shift kit install? Or does it correct the problem? Just curious because I don't own an AOD and any extra information I can absorb would be great.
No, you don't need the shuffle with a proper shift kit/VB because they adjust the shift points. The car will shift at around 5k (wot) like it should. Actually my Transgo makes the 2-3 a bit higher than I'd like it too (5500) but I'll take the trade-off. Of course, for a car that's making more power up top this is a good thing.

I finally had a chance to drive an AOD Mustang with a 2800 stall and damn. All of the testimonials I've read on this board are absolutely true. It's not like dropping a clutch at "excessive" rpms but that thing tore off the line any self-respecting 5.0 should. I'm glad I never got around to installing one on my car because I don't feel like having to upgrade my tires, among other things. lol

I might beg to differ...

A proshifted T5 with 5th gear removed would give it a run for its money. If you have never driven one, you wouldnt know. The tranny only needs the clutch to get out of gear and even with that its merely tapping the clutch pedal. I would be willing to bet the same car with a built AOD and a proshifted T5, they run neck and neck.
