A proshifted T5 with 5th gear removed would give it a run for its money. If you have never driven one, you wouldnt know. The tranny only needs the clutch to get out of gear and even with that its merely tapping the clutch pedal. I would be willing to bet the same car with a built AOD and a proshifted T5, they run neck and neck.

outperforming covers much more than just who can run the best overall time.. even IF that proshifted t-5 COULD run neck and neck with a fully built AOD... it wouldnt do it with the same consistency as it has more room for driver error... not trying to start an arguement here with you... its just that nearly all REAL race cars run an auto for a reason.. its just better...

Man, how many times have I argued this sentiment over the net. No matter how hard you try, somebody out there will think banging his own (gears) will still be faster and more consistant than an air shifter.

i have only done the 1-2-1 shuffle at the track twice... you can hold first as long as you want then you shift up and as soon as you shift up you put it back down so it locks 2nd and you can hold it to any rpm like 1st! or else it will shift at like 5200rpms.... by doing this i got .4 tenths faster and 4mph increase

my first stang had the aod.....i too swore i wouldnt do it...did it and surely the tranny went out on me after about 3000 miles.....bone stock except for exhaust and ignition.....then my second stang had a t5....swore i wouldnt powershift...did it once and have been addicted since.....broke the t5 replaced it with a junkyard one and didnt do it anymore...until my current stang in which one of my first modswas a tko600 and i powershift that bad boy and its been like 10k and its still running shifting and holding gears like a champ well worth the 1600 IMO

I've been running my AOD on my mustang for over 8 years. YES you do still have to do the shuffle if you get a shift kit, a shift kit just improves the shifts and sticks them harder and faster than stock which nice and smoothly shifts it into gear.
You can do this 1-D-1 shuffle with a thunderbird tranny AOD since they are the same as ther Mustangs AOD. Other than that i'm not to sure it works on other cars?
A stock AOD with a shift Kit and Stall conver can BE STOUT, my car runs 10 second passes all day long with that AOD and i can cruise to flordia on the highway if i want, and i'm running 4:10's so the OD is a must.
Once i started doin that shuffle i have NEVER stopped its an everyday thing when i drive the Stang. BUT you WILL tear trannys up, i'm on number 6 **** happens lol BUt ever since i added the tranny cooler, shift kit, and stall they tend to last a bit longer.

Jucd, not trying to talk smack, but why don't you just get a Lentech VB? I mean, after 6 trannys, surely would have paid for itself by now.

The beauty of a proshifted tranny is there really is no driver error. Yes more than an auto thats a no brainer, but any moron can slam gears in one. Im not arguing, I know in an all out 9 second or faster race car an auto is better, but theres something about my sister being able to drive it faster (she weighs prob 110-115) than me, that I can't get over. I appreciate what autos can do, and know what they can do, but HATE them all the same!
