10$ dollar solution to dulling headlights

Well i got to noticing how dull my lights were getting, also were pretty much just yellow so i decided to try something. I went to wally world, and bought 3 things


dupli-color clear spray paint like 5$ best quality i could find in a can
four ought steel wool 1.50
mean grean 3.50



First off i took out the headlights, and corner lights, then i proceeded to spray them down with mean grean let them soak respray, and scrub the stew out of them with 4 ought steel wool, after i did this a couple of times I took some alcohol and wiped them down, let them dry and cam back and put two coats of the spray clear on them and here is a pic of how they turned out

Looks nice, about how mine looked after I cleaned them up with sandpaper and rubbing compound.

And Ill shrink it down and post it for you...THEN you can copy it and post it on your site, and do a b4 and after pic side by side.

Most of us just sand them down and polish them. But other solutions like this are welcome.

Just wondering... have you ever had the urge to go out in that field and pull off some donuts?

that is my land at my moms so no b/c i would have to fill in the ruts,


however it is on a dirt road, and i have done many donuts down it, alond with some fourth gear burnouts, hard clay road will still let the tires smoke (til it rains)

you can also use MOTHERS Mag Wheel polish. Just follow the directions on the can and it works perfect. Easiest thing i have found...

I do a similar method, but after using a degreaser, I use an aresol window cleaner, and a sock instead of steel wool... got my fog lights clear as new but it took several hours and about 5 treatments to do it... just the good part of a football game

Why did you use a sock? Wouldnt a rag work just the same?

I put all of my old socks/t-shirts/ripped rags, all that stuff in a box in the shop... and use if for changing oil, and any other project... I use a sock over a rag though because I use a screwdriver to clean out the inside of my lenses... and it's easier to feed a sock on the end of a driver than a rag (I've had a rag fall off inside before...)

Thats a good idea. I keep all my old shirts and use them as rags when I work.

McGuires Strach X works well on the exterior of the lenses too, I forgot to mention that... for for the yellow stuff, just regular aresol window cleaner (the foaming stuff that eats away dirt) works miracles good luck guys...

Everytime you get on cloud 9 from something that you've done... someone always comes along, like viperos , and knocks you off. Sorry to hear that man... I feel for ya.

sorry, nothing too new... just most people would rather buy new lenses than take a few hrs. to clean out theirs... not you or me though (we're the rare mustang breed j/k)
