took my car to the track on friday and ran a best of 13.31 @ 100 mph with a 1.94 60ft time.. I think with some more traction mods i could possibly get a 12 second timeslip. The car is an 89 AOD vert...afr heads, f-cam, cobra intake, 24# injectors, 3000 stall, and nitto drag radials which wouldnt let me hook to well. (also has all other supporting boltons)
tell me what you think!!

not bad, lower the 60 a little. Whats your suspension setup? Some Strange 10way adjustable or lakewood 90/10 struts, slicks, control arms would help(make sure you have your torque box welded up just in case). You will be in the 12's with a nice 60.

ya i figured suspension upgrades would be next. As of now, my suspension is bone stock with eibach lowering springs which cant help traction much. I have some southside lift bars waiting to be installed when i get some time which should help.
thanks

With 100 mph its going to be really hard to run a 12.xx... Your going to need more mph than to do it. I assume this car has gears as well, so my suggestion is to try and get more mph out of it. Should be running 105+ with those mods even through an AOD.

i really dont know how to get more mph out of it....because when i go through the traps its at the very top of third (probably out of the powerband) and i cant use overdrive...but i do think that if i had another gear, it would pick up some MPH for sure. Someone mentioned taller tires too??? im using nitto 275/40/17 right now....and yes it has 4:10 rear gears and would rather not swap those out again...
any suggestions are appreciated.

You should still have plenty of RPM left in it. With 3.73s I have been 108 in the 1/4 and was only around 5600-5800 RPM.

It will help but not as much as getting the mph out of it...

In this case a better 60' will probably only give him a lower 13, whereas getting the missing mph could help him into the 12s easier!

you should have an RPM intake or get your cobra ported by TMoss. with those mods, your missing about 5-8 MPH.

you should invest in some 26" ET streets, they will lower your RPMs by about 500. going with a 28" tire (which is prolly too big) will drop you about 1300 or so RPMs.

what are your supporting mods? MAF, t-body? air intake? underdrive pullies?
you have the power on motor to be there, but its NOT there, if that makes any sense. that combo should be good for very high 280rwhp-300rwhp. where is your timing set at?

I have so many questions....

What size tires do you have??? Our 91 with 4.30s and a 28" tire goes through the traps at 6000-6200, but is pulling 112 mph.

I would say your stocker is way off, and you have more RPM to play with. If your trapping 100 and have no more RPM something is wrong with your combo!

it has a march ram air for intake, 73mm c@l maf, stock pullies, 275/40/17 tires....timing not exactly sure but i think its around 14.....i would like to get the cobra ported if it will make a difference, how much will that run me???? I will check the stock tach to see how much its off today and see if that might make a difference..
thanks for your help!!!

It sounds like its way off, with a 245/45/17 tire I can run through the traps well below 6500 RPM (you should have a stock limiter at 6250 anyway) at 108+ mph!

well im betting my tach is way off...i have a jet chip in the car so i think it disables the stock limiter, but i also have a 6000 rev limiter in the msd ignition which i dont think i ever hit

I would not worry about the rpms, especially with a stock tach. I picked up a tenth when I started using a Proform shift light instead of the tach.

My 82 traps 106 with 4.10 gears. A better launch is the easiest way to improve the et. In an aod car, a converter, although somewhat pricey would be the easiest way to pick up some tenths.

If it says 6500 and your not hitting your 6000 limiter, your tach is way off... I agree get a shift light or aftermarket tach and get a real idea where the car is RPM wise.

Traction is good, but if that mph doesnt come up, your going to have a hell of a time getting into the 12s.

funny, ive herd of stock tachs being either dead on or 1000+ rpms off at higher RPMs.

the ported intake will run ya about 100 or so plus shipping. your not flowing enough intake for those heads!!
what throttle body?

get some underdrive pullies. they are cheap, get a short belt to bypass the ac/smog and you might pickup a MPH or 3. not gonna make world of difference, but every bit helps at this point.

what size throttle body?

well i checked the stock tach today and its about 500 RPM's off at the top. So i was actually shifting around 5700ish from 1-2-3. That might be a couple MPH right there if i shift it around 6000 (6500 going by the stock tach) next time??? MY a/c and smog are already deleted. THe t-body is a 65mm, and im kind of sketchy about using underdrive pullies because the previous owner put the stock pullies back on after he said there was no power increase and all it did was dull the lights at an idle......but i might give it a shot...
thanks!!!
