I have a 68 fastback and coupe. I am looking for rims for both mainly the fastback first. I want to go with 17's or 18's for sure so i can upgrade to bigger brakes later on and I only want to buy rims once. I would like a set of 18 inch american racing torq thrusts, but I am wondering about how well they will fit and what sizes, I would need. Or will the rims look way to big for the car? I would appreciate any pics with either 17s or 18's since I live in North Dakota no one up here really has those sizes on their mustangs, I have nothing to go by. Thanks.

17" are plenty big enough for big aftermarket brakes (13" rotor)
, 18" might look a little funky on a vintage mustang.

I have a 68 with :
Front 17x8 wheels with 4.5" backspace and 245/40/17
Rear 17x9 (or maybe 9.5, I forget ) with 5.50" backspace and 275/40/17

It gets a little tough to go bigger without having clearance issues.

I'll end up with 18's rear and 17's front on my 67. Do a search (wheels) as a bunch of folks posted pics on this topic a month or so ago.

You're right, I remember even further back when most people would order 14" magnums instead of 15s. People just couldn't think outside the box.

Absolutely, a great size woud be to have 245/45/17s in the front with 275 or 295/40/18s in the rear.

what are the widest tires i can run in the rear? I'm 21. I can't really afford to tub the car and run a narrowed rear end.

If you have a 67-68, a 295/40 will fit, but you'll have to get the backspacing perfect
