I was just wondering, would it be possible to take some wheels with 24mm offset, take them to a machine shop and have enough material taken from the rear of the mounting suurface to make the wheel properly fit?? if so, anyone know how much would need to be removed??

The amount of space behind the lug is minimal and should definetly NOT be machined off or it will compromise the clamping force. SN95 axles are longer thank stock, best bet is to search out the correct length axles/5 lug swap tech articles. You will need caliper brackets but this is the correct way to run larger wheels. with 5 lug swap. I know because I have a turbo coupe rear end, although 4 lug it is the same length axles. I run into issues with my 255s on the fender lip (even though they are rolled)

You would need to take 0.75" of material off...Which is NOT SAFE at all.

Do it right, get some fox lenght 5-lug axles and the north race car brackets and pull the brake setup in. Then you can run unmodified 18x9 or even 18x10's
