1966 2V 4SPD **Updates 12/9/07**

I wanted to start a thread to follow the progress of our 1966 coupe.
Here's a bit of background on the car:
-The car has an original 289 2V 4SPD drivetrain.
-My Father purchased this car in 1968 used with one owner and 8K miles.
-The car has never been wrecked.
-This car was originally silver and has been painted four different colors.
-I was brought home from the hospital as an infant in this car in 1975.
-This car has moved from neighbors garage to friends garage to neighbors garage more times than I can recount over my lifetime, until finally finding a home recently in my garage where upgrades will begin.
-The car now is in in stage 1 of a Father / Son Restoration project and who knows where it will end.
We are hoping for a cruiser/weekend racer that will be reliable and very streetable.

The rear suspension has been updated with mid-eye 5 leafs.
The front suspension is awaiting a final purchase, but so far it looks like a full Open Tracker setup. The 289 has full length headers and 2.5" piping with a full exhaust. The remainder of the car is BONE stock.

Any help on the build would be appreciated.

Step 1 is new Wheels and tires... which I should have pics of soon.

Anyway, here is the starting point:

As you can see, there is much work ahead.

:nice: I usually don't like 17"s on the 66 body because the wheel looks too big for the car but yours looks great. I think it is because the Argent spokes and polished outers break it up, and the silver paint of the car goes very well with it too. Good luck with the project; I'm looking forward to following it.

I went with the 4.75" Backspacing. Tire clearance is good, but we'll see how it does after coming down a few inches.

I think the back will be fine, but let us know how close that front tire is to the fender after you lower it. Also, rolled lip or not on the fender?

I will be upgrading to 17 on my '66 and like to hear and see how different configurations work. Dodgestang's site has a lot of good info.

It looks like the fenders have been rolled but there is still a little left in the front. I think now, the tires would rub while hitting a bump in a turn, but overall, clearance is good.

It looks great! Is the silver the original color (Silver Frost)? I have a '67 Silver Frost fastback. I love the color.

I'm 99% sure the car is the original color, but it's not the original paint. I like the color, but I think when it gets repainted, I'll go with a darker silver.

The new wheels look fantastic! :nice:

Thank you.
