Hey guys / gals,

I have the day off for the east coast weather (isnt that bad but oh well free day off). I'm in my garage pulling out the old sound deading material and mostly old molded cartpet. I'm stuck though because i just realized i have no idea how to remove the front two seats. I'm pretty sure its as simple as four bolts, but didnt know if there is a trick to do it.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

slide underneath the car, and you will see 4 rubber plugs uner each seat. yank those out, and use a deep-socket 1/2 inch with a long extension, and repeat for the other side!

Soon as the head gasket gets in i will have the I6 tottaly done. We had some "hurricane" scare here and ive been busy planning a wedding so my free time has been kinda sucked up. Leme go down to the car and ill post some pics of my car to give you a status update.

Was going to make a new post since the topic no longer applies, but ill just follow on in this thread.

Ok so i removed the seats:

I removed the oldest carpet and mold infested sound deading material i have ever seen, 60 years of the same carpet ftl. Here is what i found underneath:

Everything looks "good" except for the passanger backseat floor:

Yes... you can see the floor and there are nice long cracks. Looks like im going to have to weld a new back floor panel on.

So i took some simple green and a hard brush and rubbed out all of the dust/mold/dirt and took a shop vac and sucked out all the water/dirt/grim/ etc. It looks like alot of places the paint / coating on the shell has cracked and bubbled. My overall plan is to place down a new rear quarter panel for the cracked part, place down new sound / heat deading material and place some fresh new carpet with new seats (not the old style but more modern bucket seats).

While im at this stage though, is there a set i should do like media blast the inside to have the shell smoothed back out? Where would you go next? Keep in mind i have a budget, but while im here i want to make sure its done right because when it gets covered up i probley wont see this part of the car for a long long time.

Honestly compared to what I had to start with yours is a fine clean rust free example. I had to do complete new floor pans and repairs to the door sills and trunk floor and you name, rust was eating it....

Looks like you have a nice car to start with.

should i put a coat of anything over it before i mat it down and carpet it? Any kind of treatment? I even heard that some people use truck bed liner as sound deading material / rust protectant?

That's purely preference and many people in here have done many different things. Whenever I had my floorpans replaced I had them painted with some variation of a black primer and then sound deadener on top of that when the interior was replaced over the winter.

My vote: A coat of paint (rustoleum maybe?) an then some sound-deadening mat. My vote is to go with a tar based peal-and-stick set up. Its not so hard to do ,and the results were good in my 01 mustang. The only downfall is cost.

A friend of mine was telling me about some fiberglass in a can that you can just spray on. I'm not trying to make it look pretty, but a nice solid coat of some type of material /paint would make me feel better about what im covering up. I have huge allergies and i want to make sure im not trapping anything in the car that will make me sneeze later. Plus it would be nice for an extra heat / noise reduction.

Not sure what route im going to take, dynamat / tar based / truck liner. I'm going to do some homework, i just hate im not doing as much work on the mustang since its labor day weekend. Why is it you always have time, when you are not prepared?
