Well, the Fairlane is here. I drove it about 50 miles this weekend, here and there.
Thoughts:
- It is definately road worthy.
- Starts right up, idles nice.
- The ride is very smooth.
- It is fairly fast, not like the stang though.
- It seems to be starving for air by about 4000 rpm.
- Essentially stock 390 FE engine, 4 BBL carb, stock exhaust, stock C6 tranny
- Wipers, headlights, turn signals all work
- AM radio does not work.
- Fan works, heater is not hot. The heater core is currently bypassed.
- I do not know if it will leak when hooked up.
- The exhaust is very quiet ... too quiet.
- While cruising around, I can almost not hear the engine at all.
- The back appears lower, it needs new springs
- It needs paint.
- It needs new seat covers and carpet.
- The dash cover has a crack or 2. It should be re-covered or replaced
- The dash-mounted tach does not work
- I have gotten at least 5 "thumbs up" while cruising around.
- 3 people stopped by to ask questions while I was filling it up with gas.
Plans:
- My mechanic (Tony) is giving it a thorough exam Tuesday.
- He will make sure it is reliable and can be driven anywhere.
- Replace rear springs. That is not what they are called, but I can't think of the proper term for them right now.
- Then it goes to the paint guy (I am talking to him tomorrow)
- After it comes back from paint, I am taking it to the interior guy.
- While it is being painted, I want to get the bumpers re-chromed.
- The only performance upgrade I am planning right now is exhaust.
- Bottom line ... I love it.
