I've had this problem since I got the car last August, the gauge cluster lights don't work at all with the exception of the turn signals.

The previous owner said the alt/temp/oil pressure gauges stopped working and put an aftermarket water temp and oil pressure gauges in.

I have no dash lights except the turn signals - when you turn on the high beams the right turn signal gets brighter.

How do I start trouble shooting this?

Check the fuse. If that's OK, start looking at the wiring. The headlight switch can also cause this, since the power comes through the dimmer in the switch.

A long shot would be all four bulbs are burned out. Ya never know.

I had already checked the bulbs. Ill look into the dimmer switch.

Whats still puzzling me is the thing with the high beams, the little blue dot on the dash doesnt come on but the right turn signal gets brighter when you engage the high beams...

Oh! Bad ground. The ground from the cluster to the dash may be disconnected, loose, or missing. Attach a wire from the cluster to a good ground and try again.

If grounding the cluster doesn't resolve the problem, read this thread on the same issue I had with my 68 a little while back. Some good troubleshooting steps offered by forum members in that one helped me get my issue resolved.

I think its a combination of having no ground wire to the cluster and the dimmer switch.

I added a ground wire and my highbeam light came to life for the first time but still no gauge lights. Next is the dimmer switch.

Thanks for the help!
