I have a friend who has a small towing business and he winds up with cars that just sit in his field. He gets it in his head to clear it out from time to time. He has this 1968 GT 4 speed 302 with the signal light hood. He says he has the glass and interior too. He told me someone offered him $3500 for the car. I said it has to be worth $5000. He told me I was number 1 in line, which means if I have 5000 he'll dig it out of the lot and deliver it to my house. What do you think?

It might be worth $5000...if the rust isn't too bad and it actually runs...if it doesn't run...$3500 is om target. Its missing an interior, glass, paint is non existent. Its a project car and with all the stuff its missing, I would hesitate to pay $5000. Those pieces dont come cheap. Window glass alone will run you $500 for a used set in bad condition.

It looks like someone has done some body work to it, the panels in the engine bay look newish; the battery tray looks nice. There's an inch or two of water in the driver's floor, so no holes in it. There is supposed to be glass and an interior with it. It's not a runner, the distributor cap is disintegrating for one thing. I'll get a wrench on the crankshaft pulley and see if she'll turn over.

I think the 40K$ and 45K$ mustangs makes for an apples to oranges comparison.
What do clapped out ones go for?

Still probably worth fixing if your looking for a project car.

Clapped out ones would be significantly less, you're right there. The market is in the $3500 to $5000 range for them as far as I can tell.
Turns out this car is local so I might pass on it. I live in a small place and I'm not sure exactly how it came to be in my friend's field. I'll have to dig a bit deeper in her history. I was told the dash was stolen out of it.

I did score this '96 from him though, so I'm happy with that. Don't want to be greedy, I just don't want to see a classic Mustang rot in a field.
