fordsix is a really interesting site, pretty amazing what some of them get out of those 200 cid I6s.
that site will point you towards aftermarket intake, bigger carb, and exhaust options. cheap(er) modifications that could help drivability, etc.
though i would not go much farther than that, they also have modified cylinder heads, stroker kits, and turbo setups... there are guys on fordsix running 12s with those things.
obviously, you're starting at a pretty big disadvantage versus a v8, but the 200cid six is a good motor... pretty much will last forever. they also get pretty decent fuel economy.. my dad's old 65 6 cylinder got 21 freeway with a c4.

Well, the main limit to 6 cylinder power is the horrible exhaust system, starting with the VERY restrictive manifold and conjoined 3-4 exhaust port. You need a divider there even if you stay otherwise stock. Then add dual headers and 2" dual exhaust. Don't even consider a larger carb or cam until you have done this.
