Hi guys I hope this is in the correct section. If it’s not I apologize in advance. I am in the process of rebuilding my first C4 transmission and was inspecting the sun shell. Upon observing it I noticed it has deep scratches but I’m not sure if it’s normal. Can anyone with experience look at the pics and let me know what they think.

They look like marks from the original stamping process. Is this the input shell? If I recall, there is another shell for reverse. If it's the reverse shell, I might not worry about it. If this is the shell the 2nd gear band rides on, then I don't like it. I wonder if a machine shop could smooth it out for you. All the shells I've seen are smooth as glass.

@Cool Beans i was thinking the same thing. It looks like it came from the manufacture like that. I don’t think anything actually rubs or rides on the shell so I doubt anything could have caused that damage.

If nothing rides on it, I wouldn't sweat it. Or as 2BLue said, they are cheap and all over ebay.
