my cousin just bought a 1973 mustang mach 1 with a 351 cleveland in it. It is also automatic. Around how much RWHP did these put out?? I rode in it and was not impressed with the power it had.
If it's a '73 engine, the numbers for 2V and 4V are 177 and 266HP respectively.
However, depending on the condition of the engine and transmission, could be much lower. Also, a lot of the automatics had pretty bad rear end ratios.
The good news is that a 351C is easy to improve. Working with 9:1 compression, you can easily get to 375 HP with a good valve job, moderate cam, headers, and aftermarket intake.
Go a bit more radical with the cam, and you are good for 450HP, but intake selection gets a bit trickier.

he was asking for rwhp. so with @35-40% driveline loss that would be @110 to 165hp. i was guessing a little high. if the engine is stock it will be even less.
you know, I thought my car was kinda slow when I first got it, but the timing was 90 degree's off, the center post of the distributor was fried out, the u-joints were oroginal... after a few hundred bucks (less than 5), the car screamed! and thats a 4v auto also, with 3.25 gears and tall tires. (best 0-60 4.73 seconds) and my cars been chassis dyno'd and only puts out around 280 hp.
Check the tune up, find out the rear gear, if it accelerates slow, but hits 140 at 4000 rpm, maybe it's got super highway gears or somthing.
