Fox 1983 T-top Coupe - $1000 - New Buffalo Butt Beer

Patina is another word that I would strike from the English language

Now that I think of it...Id ban it from Earth.

What "patina" means is raggedy ass lookin.

Let's use it in a sentence shall we?...

Your car has a perfect raggedy ass lookin paint job, you should just slash around in that ugly stepsister and update the drivetrain and underpinnings.

Then after everybody goes around the corner and pukes, you can take solace in the notion that your car looks like a Jerry's kid on purpose.

I'm with you on this one Mike. Never really understood the trend. I understand finding some super rare all original muscle car and saving it "as is". They are only original once and all that. Even then I have the same thought...id love it if it were restored.

Where we differ is I do like the "sleeper" cars. Especially grudge racing...not so good looking...but run super hard.

This is just a gratuitous pic that I found while looking for the NEXT image. lol

sexy Sexy SEXY.
Hey Noobz, I finally sat here and looked at the hood /bumper combo.

The hood won't look right on my blue car. The center body lines will come down to the inner headlight bucket corners. The '83 bumper grille area is narrower. Oddly, in the picture you posted, the black hood stripe looks like it narrows to what should be an '83 bumper grille.

Oh well, so all I need to do is to finish my red car, rebuild the blue one, then find an '82 GT to build so I can have that hood. I know, I could change out the hood and bumper on the blue one, I just feel it needs the '83 bumpers with it. Since it will be quite some time before I really worry about that, who knows what I'll really do.

Don't you worry man. I think I have a very "purist" view of the 82. It's the one that they got right in the looks department IMO.

Do you have or are you using the 83 hood? It's also a one-off.

Its really too bad you are a painter Dave. Your car has the perfect patina job to just fix up the drivetrain and under pinnings, and leave the outside alone.

Patina.....For me, it really isn't too bad I paint cars. I really never have liked the patina look.

I've heard some of the big names in car resto tv series' talk about it like it's some sort of special thing. Almost snobbishly, like they're extra hip because they're going to "save" the original look of the vehicle by clear coating rust.

I, personally think it's a case of lazy *ss on their part because of the amount of work it takes to really restore a car. In spite of what @Noobz347 said in a previous post. It's not that difficult to keep the rust and keep it from spreading a whole lot more.

I better understand the concours guy wanting to use the old paint systems to duplicate what it was like from the factory (even though those paint systems of old are crap compared to the cheapest of modern paints). At least that guy is trying to create the illusion that he has a car that was put away and kept in pristine condition. Though he really didn't, he might get a trophy at a car show for having the best looking original underpowered, bad handling, archaic ride of the show. He could put that trophy on his night stand at night and watch it as he goes to sleep.

The old cars that were put away when they were new, they're the real rarity. The ones that have the real original equipment on and in them. With the paint that hasn't been weathered to hell.

But it's a free country. People can like that patina look, and I'll support them, concours is pretty cool for no other reason than how incredibly anal you must be to dûplicate the original car. These are great things.

Fact is, something like project cheaper sleeper from 5.0 magazine was pretty cool (remember, they got that car for $1K as well). Taking a piece of crap looking car and using it to thrash the unsuspecting smart *ss in his BMW :)eek:) really is pretty entertaining! Though I wouldn't necessarily consider it to be cheaper after they dropped that short block in it.

if this car wasn't as "rare" as it is, that might be an interesting thing to do to mine.

As it is though, my poor blue car is destined for several hundred hours of straightening, primering, etc.. and will unfortunately be a stunning shade of blue with an ultra trick paint used on the trim and accents. I will probably block out the clear coat and recoat it as well.

It will be driven for a year or so in it's current rust bucket condition though. It'll even look worse, if that makes anyone feel better because I'll be putting salvage bumpers, a right door, a right fender, and a trunk lid that will probably be all sorts of colors. My neighbors will hate me and will probably demand privacy fences in my front yard.

How do you know that the unsuspecting BMW geek doesn't have something for your ass?....Then you'd be the one who was "unsuspecting".

I'm telling you guys, you don't even know.

I'm going to cars and coffee with one of those cars this morning.

I'll be driving an SUV (BMW calls it a SAC actually) sport activity coupe.

7 speed dual clutch transmission, 575 HP.

How'd you like to get your ass handed to you by mom while she's taking the kids to soccer practice?

That's a beautiful car but the reality is it's a heavy assed sac. A 350hp fox should have no problem keeping up with it unless BMW has figured out how to twist the laws of physics.

Mike, you're so pathetically easy to tweak!

I like BMW's, I just know I can make you clinch a little when I mention one in a derogatory manner.

See! We're having fun together Mike. :jester:

It is heavy, that's for sure. But the all wheel drive is how they " twist the laws of physics"

Since I'm in a mad dash to work, I'll save the party emoticon for later

Ok, I know I'm on the "other" car thread....but I'm reading about replacing the head gaskets on it's little V6. Got a strong feeling they'll need to be new to get this one running nice.

So, who's up?

What're y'all doing today mustang wise? I need to cut my grass again for sure, and I really want to grille some ribs today, other than that.....I will finish some stuff on Doby.

Who has experience with LMR's interior kit that has new carpet and seats? I think I'll be doing that to Robby in that first month of repairs. She'll get a new headliner too.

I'm soooo excited about this early stage to make her run! Of course that means Doby will be without the 3k I spend on Robby. Gots to do what I gots to do!

What makes you think it needs a head gasket? Probably be up and running with a tune up and new gas.
Ther sve stuff, not from personal experience, but we'll documented on Google is simply "ok." not great, but you get what you paid for.
The TMI interior is supposed to be very good, but covers alone don't fit will over 30 year old foam. Need to get the whole 9 yards.

I was going to do some more cutting and welding on my car, but a huge storm had destroyed my yard. I'll be removing debris and mowing.... again.

That's right, I saw that you Florida guys went through a pretty good storm, everything ok?

If I just go the cover route, no doubt the foam would need to be replaced.

Sometimes I forget to google a review on things. I'll check it out.

Save your duckets. If Robby is going to be crusty until the redo no one wants to spruce up a glx interior. Find some sn seats from the same yard. They bolt right in.

Those are 5 lug svo rims next to the red convertible.

I hadn't even noticed that. You're right. I'll be out there again in a couple weeks and I'll look it over better. I'll take some pictures too.

May have some brakes I can use on my blue car, rear discs, right?

Weren't the SVO vehicles only made '84-'86?
