Anybody know where the orange wire or red wire goes to or comes from. I know that the LG/R wire goes to the voltage regulator. I cannot find the orange or red wires spliced to the LG/R wire on any diagram, EVTM or wiring diagrams. It’s where the harness bundle comes through the firewall next to the brake booster.

It’s hard to tell in the photo, but where do those two wires go? I wonder if it was installed for a car alarm or something like that?

They go through the firewall towards the dash, and that's a factory splice.

If you cannot locate the splice in the EVTM, your only choice is to track them down to where they terminate. I know that solid red is used as the sensor input voltage. I’m sure you probably know that. Good luck or good hunt.

Most if not all of the sensors used by the ECU use a power wire that is solid red. The 1984 mustang wiring diagram above shows which ones. Good luck.

So in 1984 a GT Mustang with an automatic trans got CFI and a manual trans got a carburetor. The question is does the OP's car have CFI or a carb?

It’s a 5-speed, so no ECU/CFI, a carburetor

I'd be looking at both a 83 and 84 bulkhead connector pinout charts
The orange could an electric choke wire

I did find one wiring diagram (here: https://img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/41...c35e6bb6/downloads/1984.pdf?ver=1759275384158 ). The legend on page 1 shows there is a solid orange wire, but try as I may, I couldn’t locate it over the 17 pages. I did see the one splice (s1003 or s1005) that uses the LG/R but none of the other wires in your car. Good luck.
