1984 SOHC 2.3 Carb'd>>>Ignition Coil

The Ignition Coil in this Master Piece of Engineering is 35 years old>>>
So I thought I would ask some of you Technical Experts>>>
I have performed the Primary and Secondary Resistance readings on the Coil Terminals & they are right at Specs or a little lower>>>
Is there another test that I can do to see if this coil is still putting out enough fire?
I don't know if these things get weak over time or not>>>
All they are is copper wire wrapped around a moon rock
The Haynes Book of Knowledge says:
Ignition Coil Resistance
TFI-IV System
Primary Resistance...........0.3 to 1.0 ohms
Secondary Resistance......8.0 to11.5 ohms

Well...........it runs Ok and doesn't Ping now but having the timing set back to ZERO probably isn't too good at all>>>
Something else is going on>>> yeah the Primary and Secondary Resistance readings on the coil are within the specs of the Haynes Book of Knowledge>>>
I have built several Tube Powered Guitar Amps and this Induction thing going on inside transformers is something Magical and Cosmic>>>
Magnetic Flux and the transference of energy is almost like trying to Analise God>>> I know it is but how?
So knowing there is no explanation I replaced the coil & this engine has quit rocking back and forth like it has broken motor mounts>>>
This new Coil and TFI just may let me back off the timing from ZERO to maybe 2 Degrees BTDC we will see>>>
It's to damn cold today
