1990 gt

I disagree.

Only the taillights seems factory to me. Without a closer inspection, i can't really be sure.

The mirrors and switches and EXH light don't look factory to me at all. The mirrors don't even blend in seamlessly with the molding around the door and the switch looks like something a stereo installer would put in.

As for the decals, unless there are FORD ovals and trademarks on the labels, they could easily be done by an aftermarket company as well.

A while back there was a US-based 3rd party dealer who bought skylines from Japan, imported them, made them meet US regs and then sold them off. They had no affiliation with Nissan, but made the changes on their own. They even had to go as far as crash test a few of them to prove they were road-worthy. Unsure if Japan would require a crach test, but perhaps some company was importing Mustangs to Japan?

This is the same thing I am thinking

Someone, somewhere can make amber signal inserts that look factory

A couple lousy stickers mean nothing, anyone can make an"unleaded fuel only" or "catalyst" sticker in japanese and stick it in place of the factory labels

Please post a pic of the door sticker if it is still there. Also look for the body buck tag. It should be a metal tag mounted to the radiator support behind the driver's headlight. Write down the info on it.

Then post the info for us to see. The DSO is what we want to see the most.

Here is another place for info.

Decoding - 1982-1993 Mustang GT Registry Message Board

Also contact FoxChassis on the Corral with the body buck info.

What you are looking for is the field DSO on the door sticker. DSO is District Sales Office. It is should be a 2 digit or letter code. The DSO is used by Ford so they know where the car is going so it can made with the right parts. I use NY state as an example. Every car sold in NY state must have a rear window defroster so every mustang with the DSO should have a rear window defroster.

Also there is another way for Mustangs to get to Japan.

Here is the website for overseas sales just FYI.

Exchange New Car Sales - American Vehicles For America's Heroes

This is strictly my opinion. Military stationed overseas or on deployment oversea can buy cars through them. The don't negotiate and usually sell just below MSRP. They aren't that great of a deal compared to mainland dealers but here in Guam they are usually 3-4K cheaper than out in town due the markup applied to cars out in town. The real advantage is you can special order your car while overseas and they will deliver it to any Ford dealer in the US. Also they are the only affordable way to buy a new American car if in Japan.

Here is an example pic of the door sticker. The DSO in this example is 9D.

I had taken some pictures prior to seeing this last reply. Look at the photobucket link for the new pictures.

I went back out to take a picture of the door sticker and they all turned out fuzzy.

I did get the numbers to compare to the one in the picture you posted though.

All of my weights are a different from the ones you posted.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. This is my second mustang and don't really know much about them other than what I have read.

There are several things about this car that makes my mine wonder:

The mirrors, they don't look all that odd in person, and the wiring seems to be factory
The EXH light, wiring seems to be factory
The second set of O2 or temp sensors, wiring seems to look factory
There is a fog light switch and plugs for the fog lights, but it looks to have never been hooked up.

When I had it on my lift putting the exhaust on, the unibody/frame was not scratched or scared. There was no sign of and damage, so why is the front end different ?

DSO 72 is San Jose. Which most likely means means it was not an export car originally but converted once it got to Japan.
