1990 LX

The carfax states that between 1990 and 2017 the car was never inspected. Not sure how someone would put 122K miles on the car without ever getting an inspection done on it.

The seller said the car belonged to her father who passed away in 2017. As far as she knows it’s 22K miles.
Depends on the state. We got rid of most state inspections when they turned out to be fraud opportunities. So if it was never in a body shop, (even for touch ups, those are reported), … and how much major servicing did a 22K mile car need? That’s not many oil changes by mileage.

If for some reason she can't find a buyer for what she wants and calls me and offers to sell it to me for $5K I might end up taking it off her hands. Not sure what I would end up doing with it though.

Any ideas how much a shop would charge for the repair?? But, after asking that, with a rusted area like that what else could be hidden??

I mean to answer that you'd need to pull the car apart and really see the extent of the rust.

Rust can be like an iceberg. You might see a little bit and think you are ok, and not see the massive corrosion hidden out of sight

Bottom of the rear window has some rust problems too...
Is there a weak point in the door jambs for it to rust like that? Thats nasty.........
I am guessing the car was outside at least a good part of its life..

Just one of the multiple spots where these cars rust. Did you get a look at the bottom of the shock towers where it meets the frame rail?

If your still thinking about buying this car, Id pass.

That rust in the door jamb is minor from what I see. The hatches almost always rust around the window trim. I have found that when the window trim is "snapped" onto the clips it almost always digs into the paint and exposes bare metal. If you look at a lot of rusty hatches they are almost always rusted at the trim clip points. If the rest of the car is solid (floors, cowl, shock towers) then it's not a bad car. It's not a 10k car, but it's not bad. Mileage really means nothing at this point as this was not a garaged low mile queen. 5 to 6k would be a good buy if no other major rust IMO.

That location on the pillar can be a pita to repair. I think Gearhead704 on yourtube was repairing a car with similar rust.

What was the underside like?

To be honest. Even at $5k I’d pass. Take the money you’d spend fixing it and buy one with a better body. Hell, I’d spend $5k on a nice roller over that car that requires body work

Strut towers were rust free. Underside was also rust free. It’s only those areas that have rust issues. Hell my over 200K fox has/had worse rust in those same pillar areas. I’m pretty sure I’m passing on the car.

Its ashame for the car really. That's a pretty nice interior. That a pillar rust is nasty though, wow. For 4-5k it wouldn't be bad and could be a nice car with some work.

8k, no way in my opinion. It needs rust repair and the paint isn't nice.
