Im getting ready to upgrade my car from speed density soon.

Im planning on using these instructions

http://www.stangnet.com/tech/maf/massairconversion.html

The trouble is that Ive noticed that the instructions are for specific types of MAF computers. They have no listing of the computer I wish to use.

I personally pulled this computer from a friend's 1990 Mustang GT.

The A9Ls info on the white sticker is E9ZF-12A650-A2A

Inside where the pins are in the red area it reads E4AB-14A297-AB

Does anyone have info on this computer? The last thing I want to do is fry my car!

A9L is the best one

its easy to do it

just add the wires to your old harness
take out your old harness
and add them to it look a chilton to see were to put them into the plug that goes into the computer
and boom your done thats all u have to do
add your meter and change your computer and plug it all in

i have done it before

I was told it was so easy that I could simply splice/solder/shrinkwrap the four color coded wires on the '90 MAF plug to the same color '88 factory coded wires in that area of the engine compartment by the passenger fender. Then disconnect SD computer and plug in A9L - I dont know about that so I figured Id through it out there.

Ok, well, Im relieved to hear it will work even though it wasnt listed. I just want this install to go as smoothly as possible.

Do Our cars even have a check engine light? I thought it was completely out of that area?

i am positive the 88s have it spot for teh light in teh dash but the light is missing... I am thinking they have it cause it would make production a lot easier for the ones that are made for Cali that were MAF in '88. here u can find some more MAF conversion info and how to do the check engine light click here

no problem man, when i did mine i did the same thing collect as much info as i could so i knew what i was doing... if u have not bought a kit yet for the wiring it is pretty easy to make ur own if u have the 4 or 5 pin connector that connects to teh MAF, that u can get from a JY... u woudl also have to get some EEC pins that u can pull out a lot of different models and years of ford not sure which ones easiest to just get some out of a Mustang in a JY

I think Im going to buy the harness kit off of Ebay just for ease of installation. I think it comes with everything needed including the signal outputs. - I learned something!

Did the conversion with my 88 GT. Wasn't 2 difficult with the help of my dad.
We just used the harness out of the stang in the wrecking yard, so out went
the old harness, in with the new. Change the air intake tubes, and swap
computer. That simple. Also, the 88's do have a check engine light. This is
kinda ironic, since mine came on since a little after I did the conversion.
Car still runs great, anyone have this problem? Kinda think it might be the
TP sensor or somethings up with the computer, I dunno.

Dump the codes and see what the computer says is wrong…

Here's the link to dump the computer codes with only a jumper wire or paper clip and the check engine light, or test light or voltmeter. I’ve used it for years, and it works great.

See http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/
OR
See http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html for more descriptive help
OR
See http://www.mustangworks.com/articles/electronics/eec-iv_codes.html

IF your car is an 88 stang, you'll have to use the test lamp or voltmeter method. There is no functional check engine light on the 88's except possibly the Cali Mass Air cars.

Codes have different answers if the engine is running from the answers that it has when the engine isn't running. It helps a lot to know if you had the engine running when you ran the test.

Trouble codes are either 2 digit or 3 digit, there are no cars that use both 2 digit codes and 3 digit codes.

For those who are intimidated by all the wires & connections, see http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16153 for what a typical hand scanner looks like. Normal retail price is about $30 or so at Walmart.
