My buddy went to the dealer to trade in his old as heck Volvo 740 Turbo for a newer used Civic and found out they won't give him but a couple hundred bucks for it (GO FIGURE). And he just spent more on tires for it recently. So he said I can have it if I pay him for the tires. LOL! It's going to be mine in about a week after he gets the civic.

Has anyone here ever owned one or tried to mod one?

Its a RWD turbo, and I know there are some fanatics out there.

I don't have any experience, but a friend of mine used to have a newer (FWD) Volvo, the turbo 5 cylinder, with over 500 horsepower.

I have a good friend with a daily driven volvo s70 that he runs at import wars point series. Very consistant car even under all the tweaking he's done to get that turbo car movin..

Everyone there is extremely surprised as it's a 12 second 4 door sedan and it hit's his dial in basically on the money every time..

This thing looks so retarded, but it has potential to be a FUN car. I've been watching videos of 740's setup for drifting and stuff. Never pictured this car doing that, and I guess that's the point.

Assuming things work out and I actually get the car in my name and everything I am going to put it under the knife. Do the usual compression test etc to see what I am working with. Then it's off the the junk yard and ebay for parts.

The car runs just fine, but with 175k miles it could use some lovin'

There is an older turbo Volvo wagon that comes to the local track on Friday nights. Street legal, 4 door wagon, full interior, and runs in the 11's most nights. You'd never guess it from the outside.

There are definitely some rabid Volvo enthusiasts out there that can help you out. I'd take him up on it... At the very least it would be a cheap extra car that could potentially be a lot of fun as a driver/project.

There are a few guys in the 11's on the forums there. The one I saw is in Alabama. But it's hard to believe they are doing it with a little 2.3L 4-cyl.

I know I won't be in the 11's, since the one I'm getting is an auto. But I think 5-speed trannies might be cheap for these, and I hate auto. Or maybe I could trade it to someone for a turbo with a manual tranny. Dunno.

I know a guy who put a LS-1 motor in one, but i think his was an 88' lol, wicked tire burner!! goes great in a straightline just don't try to stop or turn. haha

I'm told that used cars of all kinds are piling up / everywhere .......

they're a real drag on the market now

hey! maybe we can export them to India and Africa?
