Is there any difference between a 95 gt transmission and a 95 cobra transmission? Both of course being the t-5.

Yep. The gears are phosphate coated, and it came from the factory with a steel input bearing retainter instead of the aluminum one on the GT.

What does the coating do? Does it make them stronger or less prone to wear or something?

I believe it was intended to increase the power handling capability. Not sure how it would though? It's still the same gearset as the standard WC T5, but have a phosphate coating, so the properties of the aluminum didn't change any.

for some reason, i was thinking that the cobra t5s were rated to handle 5 or 10 more lb ft of torque. definetly do not quote me on that

Starting in 93, the Cobra tranny's, in addition to the phosphate coated gears, also got tapered roller pocket bearings.

They also, as previously mentioned, picked up 10 lb-ft of tourque capacity.

...The Cobra boxes also received a reverse brake and synchro assembly where there was none before. Just about everything else remained the same...

Our 94-95 Non-Cobra T-5's also use this. I know because It was in mine when I rebuilt it. lol
