Good evening,
I am asking if anyone has experience with using a late model roller 5.8L into our early cars. Im trying to decide if i can use the short block with a cam swap and my edelbrock heads.
What is the engine balance (0, 28, 50 oz), can i use my early timing cover and 1 piece fuel pump eccentric? Also, what is the stock piston material and compression ratio. Im interested in just using the short block, i found one in great shape, and id like to use my current sfi balancer and billet flywheel.
Are there any other issues with my idea? THanks for your experience and help!
Mike

All factory 351's use 28 oz balance factor. Heads will bolt on but you need to check piston to valve clearance especially since you doing a cam swap as well. It's a roller block so you have lots of cam choices. Timing cover should bolt up but you need to match the water pump's outlet to the cover because of the timing pointer. Pistons are gonna be cast or possibly hypers. It's a truck shortblock so the comp ratio is low 9's high 8's but that's hard to say because it really depends on the heads you are using.
