As some may know im swapping out my blown motor for a PI swapped motor out of a 98. I have heard that the 98 motors made a little more power than the 96-97's, is this true and if so why? thanks.

I think I have read before that the 98 has slightly improved headers. Can't swear to it, but I'm pretty sure.

yes, 98's have 10hp more, because they have "bigger" exhaust manifolds, and a little more timing in the stock tune.....

I've never heard of larger exhaust manifolds. I've always been told it's due to a more agressive tune in the EEC.

so it's a 98 GT engine that had the PI swap done to it? cause I could have sworn the 99 motors were the first true PI ones

99 is the first year of the pi motors, but 98 (225hp) made 10 more hp then the 96-97's (215hp)

98 motor w/ PI cams and intake. I got a killer deal on it.

Exactly. If i was putting in a motor into a 96-98, at minimum it would be a 99+ motor

Without the heads it's not a true "PI swapped" motor.

...I can take it. I think.

PI cams and intake and you are pretty good as far as the HP bump. The PI heads are minimal at best for increased power. In the 98 you should be at or above 240RWHP.

Some places I've seen the extra 10 hp in the 98 GT attributed to the headers. In other places it is attributed to the EEC and an "upgraded fuel system." So for which one it actually is:
