hey. i have a 1998 mustang GT. heads up is rebuilt cams. flowmaster exhaust. underdrive pulleys bbk coldair/mass air.

I have owned this car 6 months. and my fault for not checking the oil often. but it was 3.5 quarts low on oil. (6qt cap) and it ran fine and i wasnt losing oil pressure. or leaking that i know of. but now its ticking/knocking when throttle. took the valve covers off there is metal flakes in the oil. the cams appear to be in good shape. 2 things ive heard is either cam bearings or rod bearings. they say rod bearings and you need to redo motor. any inpt? thanks

timing chain appeared to be ok. rod bearings is what im hearing now

the chain is not what i was refering too, the guides is were your problem will lye. the guides are a high composite plastic that wears out over time especially when it run low on oil. thus letting the chain eat the metal back away from guide itself. all the shavings will clog the pickup and torture the bearings. you problem may be in you bearings now but im willing to bet the rebuild was done half heartidly.
