1998 GT Electrical Problem... I think?

Hey guys I'm new. I have a 1998 Mustang GT 4.6 and I'm kind of at a loss.

Long story short the car completely quit on me while driving. Come to find out the fuse for the fuel pump had blown and was told the assembly could be bad. So I dropped the tank and changed the whole thing. It was actually running better than normal until it quit on me again durning the test drive. Now the second I put in a new fuse and turn the key it immediately blows the fuse.

I thought it could be a bad ground but I was told since I have back tail lights still through ground isn't bad. Does anyone know what could possibly going on?

Are you POSITIVE that it's the fuel pump fuse that is blowing? I ask because there are several Ford owner's manuals where the PCM and fuel pump fuse in the battery junction box are labeled backwards.

Just wondering. When the fuse is blown are you able to "talk" to the PCM via an ODB2 scanner? If not consider that it's the PCM's fuse that is blown.

Hi, i can not seem to find the right fuse diagram for what i have. i tried rearranging some fuses to a diagram i found online but now my dome light doesn't work, i cant lock my doors from the inside. And when i push the unlock button all my parking lights come on, i'm like how the hell did i do...

Check your Fuel Pump relay. I have a Toyota truck that did exactly that, kept blowing the fuse. My dad put a new relay in it on an educated guess and it has been perfect for three years and thousands of miles.

Yes it is for sure the fuel pump fuse and no I have not checked because I do not own an ODB2 scanner

Would you happen to know where it is at? I'm half way decent with mechanical stuff but this is my first time dealing with anything electrical so I don't know where everything is at lol

Here's some information on an affordable and very powerful ODB2 scanner. The USB adapter is $30. The ForScan software is free. No excuse not to have and use.

The fuel pump relay is located inside the CCRM. The CCRM is located inside the front right passenger's fender well.

The 1998 Mustang GT uses an additional external two speed fuel pump relay. Located in the front right passenger's kick panel. Any evidence of water or rodent activity?

Do you have a test light? Are you willing to use it and post the results?

OBTW, a bad ground isn't likely to "cause" a fuse to blow. More likely to have a wiring fault that is grounded.
