hmmm...doesnt sound right. the silencer is actually behind the filter box, in the fenderwall. if i remember correctly i had to open up the air filter box, remove the filter, and take like three screws out that were holding the silencer on. then you just have to shimmy the silencer out from the bottom of the fender.

i unclipped the top of the box, took out the filter, unscrewed the bolts and took out the big black piece that the filter sits on, on the side of the fenderwall is the other black piece thats kinda wedged into the fenderwall and extends down kinda by the passenger side headlight, does that whole piece come out??? or does the black piece closest to the light snap off and the bigger black piece in the fenderwall stay?

Just remove anything that looks like it might inhibit the flow of air into the opening into the air box.
