2 1/16" or 2 5/8" gauges?

Alright, I need some advice on aux gauge (water temp, oil pres, volts, fuel) size. There are 2 different aftermarket gauge pods for the '69-70 dash. One is made by Year One: houses 2 1/6" gauges, is just a pod so I would have to assemble everything and would be about $700-$800. The other is made by JME: houses 2 5/8" gauges, comes complete w/ gauges wired complete but would run about $1100-$1300. My question is do you think the additional $$$ is worth spending to get the larger size gauges? Anybody using 2 1/16" gauges and can advise me on how easy/hard they are to read? Thanks.

I've used both and I prefer the larger gauges cause of their ease to read while at the car idles and while driving. Of course I have old eyes so that's part of the reason :bang: . I think it's gonna come down to preference and where you mount them.

I'm with ya on the old eyes, that's why I'm leaning towards the larger gauges too. I just have to come to grips with spending twice the money to have them because they come completely assembled and wired. The up side is it will save me a lot of work and I'm no professional so the job will be nice and neat.

That link shows the carbon fiber gauges, which are very cool looking, but I'm leaning towards the Ultra-lites w/ silver faces.

That's tits! :nice:

I don't know how readable the smaller gauges are in that setup. I'm sure someone on here has one and could offer some insight.

The gauges in that pic are 2 5/8" dia., those are the bigger ones. If I can't see those I'm in big trouble. I figure that those are about the same size as the factory gauges which are fine but I do worry about the smaller ones, especially oil pres and water temp. I like to keep a very close eye on those!!!

I like the 2 1/16 gauges, but I have young eyes.

I was going to say something along those lines.

2 1/16" is comparable to stock size, at least for 65-68 Mustangs. I prefer to keep a more stock looking interior and the smaller gages fit better into that requirement. I suppose if I started racing and needed high visibility, 2 5/8" might be better. In fact, that's where I see more of the larger gages: race cars. My plans are to keep the stock cluster and put aftermarket gages behind it.

I went with the 2 5/8" gauges the 2 1/16" just looked too small IMO...

In your pic, the 2 5/8" gauges look to be about the size of your stock dash gauges. We have the same factory dash and the stock size is good. I'm most probably going w/ the larger gauges although I have not received any info from JME on price and availability. So we'll see.
