2.3 Fuel Related Questions

I had a few basic questions for you guys. How many gallons do the fuel tanks in our 2.3's hold? I am thinking around 20 gallons. The other question I had for you guys is how many lbs are our stock fuel injectors are? If I were to put higher lb injectors in, how would that effect things? I would imagine less fuel economy and more power, but I am not sure. Thanks in advance.

~14 gallons...I don't remember the decimal.

14lb/hr...bad gas mileage and less power.

The fuel tank is actually 15.7 gallons. An interesting note, the Thunderbird Turbo Coupes had a 20-22 gallon tank, something like that. I drove from my house to the middle of indiana on one tank of gas last year

Hmm...you sure it's not 14.7? That's the # that's in my head. Somebody look in their chiltons or haynes manual.

Stinger, how do you figure you get less power with stronger injectors? Doesn't make much sense to me, can anybody elaborate on this?

Think about it. The stock ones provide the engine with plenty of fuel unless you are making more than ~150hp. If you install bigger injectors what you get is an engine that runs rich (too much fuel). Rich = Safe, Lean = Power. Too much fuel, power goes down.

I once asked Marcello Canitano of SilverHorse racing what I could do to get little power out of my N/A 93 2.3L LX. He had said I could run a 90-95 ish GT MAF/19lbs and it would give me a little more pep. He him self uses a N/A 93' Mustang 2.3L LX with around 150-175hp for SOLO II racing.
