i got a 2.3 87 mustang 5sp the car turns on fine after like 4 turns of the key then when the car heats up and you shut it off then try to turn it back on It will turn on but then the rpms go crazy it will immediately be at like 1300 rpm then shoot down to like 500 then shut off. This only happens after the car is warmed up can someone help me thanks.

Have you had your ignition module tested? That would be a good place to start. Also might try pulling the codes.

most likely the TFI (igntion module) They tend to fail when hot, and work fine when cold. Its very annoying when they start to go bad.

hmm, My money is still on the Ign module, they tend to be intermittant. However i would start looking at the fuel supply next, Is your pump running when the car dies? Do you have sufficent fuel pressure?feifong said:

It's the TFI, bottom line. It feeds the signal to the Tach. Nothing else can make the tach read weird.
It tested good because it didn't have time to heat up and fail when they tested it.
