I have a 2.3L stang I drive in the winter, And I noticed that
when the engine is cold it gets good oil presher but as soon as the engine
worms up the oil presher drops almost to nothing, and when I stop at a light
the oil presher drops to 0, then when the car start`s moving agian then oil persher go`s up a little but not alot. I`m thinking the oil pump is craping out.

So I went to my local shop and I told him what was happening and he said it`s the baring`s in the bottom end.

Do you guy`s have any idea what it could be? It would help alot
Thank`s.
Mike.

It is very common for the oil pressure sending unit to go bad. My sending unit did exactly what you describe... no pressure at idle. The sending unit and consequencly the gauge is no better than an on off switch. That is all that circuit is.
Don't tear open the bottom end until you see a mechanical pressure gauge on you engine. I would be absolutely SHOCKED if your bearings were bad. You would hear lots of rod knocking, and many other symptoms telling you that the engine is sick.

O ic, ya the engine is runs pritty smooth but I can hear that the head is not getting oil becuse the valve`s are noisy.

do you now where the oil pressure sending unit is located???
I would like to fix it myself to save on shop fee`s.

Thank`s, that`s great.

could be that the head just needs a rebuild. If you want to be really sure, just remove the valve cover, and start the engine. Oh yeah, step a few feet backwards
My grandfather did not, my oh my, was he in need of a bath ....

Well, at least I was sure the head was getting plenty of oil

the oil pressure sending unit is on the drivers side of the head at the very back. It is a medium sized round thing with a single wire on the end. Pretty easy to change unless it is really tight like mine. mostly, they are just a pain to get a wrench on though.

i agree...but instead of turning hte car over, use a ratchet to turn the crank, its much slower...and makes a little less mess (STILL MESSY!)

Thank`s, I`ll change that and see what happens. If that fixes
the problem then I will get the head rebuilt.

LOL, I don`t think I`ll be doing that, because I park in a parkade,
and oil will be very tuff to clean off of the flore.

While your changing the Oil pressure switch,
do this to check your gauge:

turn the key on to run
then take the wire off of the oil sending switch and ground it to a body or engine part.
This will make the gauge say it has maximum oil pressure.
Make sure the gauge moves all the way up.
