Or more importantly, give us a goal of some kind.

Get a good front mount intercooler, add lots of boost (with correct tune of course) and watch them disappear in the rear view mirror. The stock T3 is good for around 300rwhp and I went high 12s at 106 with one.

Mostly just fueling and air metering. A 50 trim T04E would be a good for anything between a stock 2.3T up to ~350rwhp and the stock longblock can handle 400+. Even the stock T3 is capable of 250rwhp, which is in the same range as an H/C/I 5.0.

My T3 put down 266rwhp on a mustang dyno. If it had been a dynojet, maybe I would have put down closer to 290rwhp. You already have a T3, just give it a good intercooler and crank the boost (with correct tune) and a bigger exhaust. In my opinion, you won't be able to put a hybrid to good use on a stockish 2.3 because it just doesn't have enough intake and exhaust flow and you won't get to the sweet part of the compressor map. Then again, I wouldn't recommend pushing a T3 as far as I have, but for a stockish combo under 250 rwhp, it's the better choice.

A 50 trim T04E will actually work decently on a stock 2.3T. It is one the few T04E wheels that can support enough pressure ratio to be useful on a choked-up 2.3. The problem is that exhaust backpressure will be pretty high with a stock T3 turbine and boost response will degrade with a stage 3 or 5 wheel.

Ehh, each to his own. I agree, the 50 trim is about the best for any street 2.3 and lust after having one, but it isn't ideal on a stock 2.3. At 15psi on a 50 trim, you don't get to the peak efficiency island until about 25 lb/min (250hp). At 20psi, the efficiency island is delayed until about 32lb/min (320hp). There is no way you are getting close to these numbers on a stock 2.3. With a cam, K&N and 3" exhaust, it would be worthy, but not a stock 2.3.

1.) At 15psi and 20lb/min, the 50 trim is still only 2% behind the T3. That's less than 10° difference in discharge temperature.

2.) At 20psi and 25lb/min, the 50 trim is approaching the surge line, but still on the border between 72 and 74%; 2-4% lower than the T3.

Which is exactly my point... why would you pay $700 to loose efficiency and power (albeit slight)? The hybrid will definately spool more slowly compared to the T3 too. Wait until you need it (250+rwhp).

I totally agree; there is no reason to ditch the T3 until then. I was just saying it's not a horrible compromise for something with room to grow into. It is still a compromise, just not a horrible one.

Volvo headswaps are usally pretty good, when doing major upgrades, if you can find one.

Don't forget a 3 inch exhaust. You'll get spanked off the line but it's the top end where you'll catch up.
