1st of car is a 89GT W/tilt steering, b-cammed long block with gt40 upper and lower

Alright heres problem #1- My steering wheel has ton's of slop in it and i've narrowed it down to the pivoting joint directly behind steering wheel(i can turn the wheel an inch or two before the wheels react. any way to fix this without ditching my factory colum?

issue #2- My car over heats with A/C on... Now the previous owner removed the tstat. I have a 190* mr Gask i need to throw on there. If i ride around with the air off it will run LOW on the temp gauge. Turn the A/C on and within a short time it will over heat to the point of boil over. Highway or stop and go traffic it doesnt matter, A/C off runs fine, On and over heats. I pretty sure my fan clutch is on the down side of life but would that still cause it to overheat at highway speeds with ac on?

take the fan clutch off and put a electric fan on it if money is low and your good with wires go to the junk yard and pull a electric fan off a crown vic 4.6 it will fit with a little force i did it on my 92 coupe and i works fine and it will pick up a little hp .

Overheating with the A/C on - make sure the plastic air dam below the radiator is still in place & on good shape. It is easy to damage it when you park too close to the curb or the tombstones that separate parking spaces.

If you have underdrive pulleys, they can also cause overheating with the A/C on.

The air damn under the core support is MIA. I thought it was useless at highway speeds though?

The air damn is for the highway, in theory it forces air up into the radiator.

I wouldnt mess with an electric fan until you get the overheating situation under control. All that would do is make the situation harder to diagnose.

Definetely put a thermostat in.
When it runs wide open with no obstruction the water doesn't stay in the radiator long enough to cool off.

Also make sure your a/c is properly charged, if it's cycling on and off too much it will also cause strain on the engine and make it heat up faster.

Problem #1 - Are you referring to the rag joint in the steering shaft? I can't tell from your description. If so, replace it as it is a common wear part. If you have an internal column problem try this link: Mustang Central.net Steering Column Fix

Problem #2 - Put in a thermostat and a brand new fan clutch. Do a radiator flush or replace the radiator if needed. Get the cooling system functioning properly before any modifications such as an electric fan.
