I was just wondering if there is any reason that some of the mustangs have different paint styles then others. Most of them are just solid paint but my car for example (2002 Black V6) has this grey colored stripe along the bottom of each side of the car and it says MUSTANG in the middle of the stripe (does that make sense?) I see quite a few of these with the stripes on the bottom of the sides but I deff. see more w/o the stripes. Is there any reason that only some have it and some dont? Did they only do that a certain year??

Also... the little emblem on the sides... when u have a GT is says 'GT' or when u have a cobra it has a silver cobra snake and when u have a V6 it has just the mustang with the red white and blue vertical stripes behind it or it has the mustnag with the red white and blue vertical stripes and a circle around the whole thing. What the hell is the difference between the V6 emblem with the circle and w/o the circle?

ok... found some pics... just some randoms that I found when I did a search, so I dont know who's pics these are.

Here is one with the paint stripe I'm talking about on the bottom (like mine)

and here's the emblem I have on my car...

and here's the other emblem I see (sorry the pic is blurry )

sorry if these sound like really stupid questions, but I've been wondering ever since I got my car 2 months ago... is that weird? Oh well!! Answers are much appreciated!

1) Options / Packages.

2) 35th Anniversary (99) or a 40th Anniversary (04).

Thanks!! I thought the paint might have something to do with the package bought... do u have any idea if there is a significance to the package with the paint stripe? I read somewhere that there are 3 different packages u can buy for the V6's...

Mustang base models offer a choice of three packages: Standard, Deluxe ($605), or Premium ($1720).

(page I got info from)

sooo...from what I gathered reading the info, the car I bought was originally purchased as the premium package and I was just curious if perhaps the paint stripe is apart of that package?

The graphics vary, but in 03 there was a prominent "Pony Package" for the v6 which had decent rims, Hood Scoop and a set of ugly pony decals on the side.

Most of differences between packages are the rims, whether the interior has leather or cloth and of course you can upgrade to Mach 460 or 1000.

Powerwise, there is no difference between packages or with suspension.

Ford also offered an appearance package on V6's (not sure which exact years) that offered the body molding striping. The one you pictured however appears aftermarket.

Also the 03 Mach1 uses the tri-bar 3 color with the running pony fender emblem, so it wasn't just limited to the V6 only that year. Just an FYI. I've had a few unsuspecting think my Mach1 looks like a V6 stang from the side, but the shaker hood and scoop usually convinces them otherwise

Thanks 4 the answers... I see its not such a cut and dry answer like I thought it would be. There's alot more to all of it. That pic of the convertable I posted looks just like my car except mines hardtop (and the striping might actually be a little smaller and lower on my car as well... not sure though). I see alot of other mustangs with the exact same striping on the bottom (in other colors too, I've seen some red ones with an off-whitish color striping, and some white ones with a tan colored striping) I dont really think mine is aftermarket only because I see the exact same striping on many other mustangs that dont have any mods done to it (like mine.) Never know though...

I was just curious! Appreciate all the answers!

The longer you own your car, the more you'll notice small differences between every Mustang you see on the road.

It won't be long until you know each individual year based on options, and what is "stock" or not.

http://bradbarnett.net/ Is a good start to reference.

The dealer can also customize a car before its sold.

Here is one aftermarket strip kit, not from Ford.

http://www.mwspeedshop.com/stripes/stripe2.JPG

Look in the Ford Accerory book for items avalible for your year.

Like the Pony Strip kit

when you drive your car almost fully nekkid through the Taco Hell drive through, the old lady with missing teeth who runs the register gives you food for free. Go to the one in renton at night, she'll be there.
