Hey guys I've been doing some thinking and I need your input. I have a 2001 GT that has the stock engine with a Vortech V2 9lb. The car has 22,000 miles on it and about 12,000 of those miles are with the blower installed. I expect that someday I'll be snapping a rod or damaging one of those crappy pistons. My original plan was to just rebuild the engine with forged internals and crank up the boost a little. Then, I started thinking about scrapping that idea and just swapping in a 4 valve Cobra engine. And when that breaks, I'll put the forged internals in it. Probably the 99-02 year engines.
I was wondering if anyone here installed a Cobra engine in their GT. I know that there are specialty Mustang salvage yards where I could find a decent used Cobra engine. I'm just wondering if the swap is worth doing. I'd be dealing with the cost of the engine, new computer, wireing harness, and any other things. The labor is free for me. And, would my Vortech bolt right up to the Cobra block. I'm guessing the bracket is the same as the 2 valve. I know I'd have to get the computer re-tuned and possibly change the fuel injector size and mass-air meter.
Please chime in and let me know if the swap is possible and what else I would have to purchase to complete it. Or let me know if you think my original plan of beefing up the 2 valve internals is a better idea.
