Hey guys, I've got a 2000 3.8, the power steering will NOT quit whining. Replaced the power steering pump, flushed all the fluid and replaced half with transmission fluid hoping the high viscosity would quiet things down. Well, it still whines like a bitch in heat. Was wondering if anybody had a solution? Car has 202xxx miles.

Adieu

Easy there, this ain't a dating site.

You either have air in the system, a restriction somewhere, or just a noisy Cardone reman pump.

Fill the reservoir and start the engine. Turn the steering wheel slowly lock-to-lock, bouncing it off the limiter gently a few times each way. Keep doing this, checking and topping off the fluid frequently, until the noise goes away or the steering feels normal but the pump is just noisy. If after 10 minutes or a full quart of fluid you aren't getting any improvement, evaluate what is happening. If the steering is smooth, it's the pump. On Ford applications, reman pumps are frequently noisey.

This will help, or you can R&R the pump and get it warrantied, taking your chances.

If the steering doesn't feel normal after the bleeding procedure, you have a problem, either a collapsed hose or a bad rack.

I've bled the living daylights out of it. Steering feels perfectly fine, would it just be the pump itself then? Its easy enough to replace, and still under warrenty

Yup, pump or Lucas time. You'll have to bleed it again.

At work I get paid again to R&R the pump again. Doing them at home for friends and family, I always use Lucas on remanufactured Ford pumps.
