2001 3.8L

Got my oil pump in the mail today and noticed it came with a spring, cap and what looks like a small cam but it is straight.

When I removed the old one I figured I would find these parts but I didn't see them anywhere.

Does anyone know if I need these parts for the 3.8L and if so where do they go?

Thanks!!!!

I believe what you have is a new oil pressure relief spring with an end cap and a roll pin or cotter pin. The spring goes into the open port on the oil pump against the relief valve. Once the spring is in, it will have to be compressed so the cap can then be put over the top of the spring. This is all held down while the pin is pushed through the two holes to hold the cap and spring in place. If you can get down to a Ford Dealer you may be able to have then photocopy an exploded view of the oil pump so that you can see how it goes together. Surprised that the new pump did not come with directions.
