2001 Built - 6 bolt or 8 bolt?

A 2001-2004 Mustang GT should have:

• 4.6 Romeo iron block with SOHC PI heads
• 6 bolt crank

A 2001+ GT should have come from the factory with an 11" clutch. But it quite possible to change clutch size as long as the clutch matches the flywheel, and transmission input shaft (number of splines).

In general if looking for a salvage yard flywheel to support a 6 bolt crank with 10.5 inch clutch try a 1996-1998 model year GT.

If looking for an 6 bolt crank with an 11" clutch, try 2001-2004 model year GT.

A 1999-2000 GT came from the factory with a 8 bolt Windsor SOHC PI using an 10.5" clutch.

There are a very few odd ball 2001 Romeos that came from Ford with an 8 bolt crank. However these are very rare. IMO it would be a bad idea to spend reall $$'s on parts until you knew for certain that your Romeo has an 8 bolt crank.
