The Heads & Cams are in, and I'm loving it.

Recently got the itch to get this upgrade on the car and VT was able to supply me with the deals. Bought both my heads & my cams from them and Scott and Jim were great with customer service. Everything arrived here VERY quickly and I didn't hesitate on putting them on at all. Took my car upstate to a reputable shop and had the install done and was dyno tuned. Which Shop? Murillo Motorsports in San Antonio, Tx did the job and I'm damn pleased with the outcome. If there's anyone in the Tx area looking to get some work done I'd reccomend them anyday. The guys up there are kickass. Weather up there wasn't great at all because of the vast amount of rain that we've been getting through Texas for the past two weeks, but regardless they got everything on there perfectly.

My previous numbers in the valley on the dyno were 251rwhp/285rwtq. So I took it up there hoping to get a better baseline pull. I got exactly the opposite: 247rwhp/279rwtq . Mike Niess said that there was no doubt that the air was to dense at the time because of the amount of rain and muggy weather that was lurking so I had no problems and told them to go ahead and get things started. The process was pretty quick considering they had to get my header fabricated to spec because of the amount of dimple I had to give it due to the steering shaft not wanting to connect to the steering rack after my QA1 Tubular Front setup. They were keeping in touch giving me updates and sending me pics throughout the install.

I finally got the call after a few days that the car was done and that it was on the dyno. I couldn't help but be happy of course, but I was still waiting on the numbers. My goal was to get as close to 300rwhp as possible, but I knew it was going to be hard because of the fact that I was still running the stock intake, throttle body & mass air. Regardless I was going to get as close as possible being that I had that against me. After a few hours of tuning I finally got the call that my car had made 288.8rwhp/303.8rwtq on pump gas. Think I was happy? **** yeah I was. Being able to push that through an automatic is one thing, but doing it with a completely stock intake assembly is another. I was please and couldn't get the smile off of my face. Found some time out of work to go up to San Antonio to pick up my car and Mike Murillo insisted that I take it out for a test drive to see if I liked it. Definitely a completely different car than the one that I dropped off. We spoke for a while about the tune and then returned as soon as possible so it wouldn't be to late. ( 5hr Drive 1-Way ). Sine then I've been driving it every day being that it IS my daily driver and haven't had any problems what so ever.

Here's a breakdown of my pull:

I gained a total of 41rwhp and 29rwtq over baseline pull after the upgrade. My baseline pull was made with my Mail Order JMS chip. The baseline and best pull were both made in the same weather 100% Humidity, 28.99 Baro. Pressure, 60*F and on the same dyno.

The drive is awesome and the performance is out of this world on the street with radials. Damn good cruiser for now, just need to see when I can make some test passes at a track.

I've no idea what kind of power I lost due to drivetrain, but there's a few theorys floating around, all in percentages. Regardless, I'll take my 41rwhp & 29rwtq any day.

BTW, Great #’s.
I have a 2001 GT and am in the process of the same thing.
What Heads and Cams did you go with?
I have the VT Stage 1 cams, but am exchanging for the VT Blower Cams. I am also going to go with T&J Performance Stage 3 heads and Comp Springs.
I can’t wait and am glad to see some performance #’s on another Auto GT with heads and Cams.
Are your track times with the head/Cams Combo?
