My Brother just bought a new 2002 GT with a five speed and was hoping that you guys could help me out. What manual trans came in these cars it kind of looks like a T5 but then again it does not. Also how do you get replacement gear oil in to the trans? The fill plug is in the tail shaft and above the cross member support any trick would be a great help.

you have a tremec 3650.

i believe the 3650 uses atf rather than gear oil. i may be wrong since its been a while since i had the stock tranny in my car.

Refer to your owner's manual. My 00 GT calls for the 80-90 Gear Oil PLUS the friction modifier. I got both from the ford dealer. The gearbox uses ATF. I paid $25 (labor) to have all my tranny fluid changed, but if you want to do it yourself, I believe you'll need a pump to pump the gear oil up to the fill hole.

We where going to replace it with Mobil 1 synthetic ATF fluid but could not figure out an easy way to do it without a pump. I will rig up a positive pressure system to get in. Thanks for the help.

Is the 3650 a good tranny I know the T5 is a popular swap into the classics but have never heard of a 3650?

When I had a 3650 the way I refilled it was to remove the shifter base from the top of the tranny and pour it in there.

Sometime in the winter of 2001 they switched from the T-45 tranny to the 3650. You should have the 3650.
I had synthetic oil put in my T45 and highly reccomend it to everyone. It goes into gear smoother even when it's cold out.

The recommended fluid is Dextron III and the fill is 3 liters (that's about 3.3qts I believe). They came with a factory fill of Mobil 1 but SHOULD NOT be using that. Synthetic is not recommended from what I understand.

hit the nail on the head

after COUNTLESS threads about the 3650 this is the general consensus. i used 3.3 qts. of Castrol Domestic Vehicle ATF (mercon/dexron III) in my 'o2 when i swapped in my MGW and it works great
