2005 interior...WTF?

OK, while I appreciate the incorporation of nicer materials and truly dig the retro style of the new interior, does anyone else think the interior may be a little too faux retro? I'm thinking (especially where the steering wheel is concerned) that the interior has too much fake macho styling. It brings to mind vehicles like the Xterra and other trucks from Nissan, what with the muscle-y body cladding. I think the exterior is sweet as hell, but inside...Is it just me?

The steering wheel, now that you mention it, is probably my least favorite part of the '05 interior but not because it is too retro. I think, if anything, it is not retro enough. But then I'm old school. I also realize Ford has to incorporate an airbag and seems (along with the other carmakers) to want all those controls on stalks that I wish were still on the dash. Hell, I was even hoping for a "pony" interior option!

I won't pass judgment untill I see it in person. From the pictures I've seen, the new interior looks really nice. Apparently, the aluminum inserts on the dash and wheel are real, so that's cool. The only element I think might be a bit much is the gauges. I like the way they look but I think they might have sacrificed some function for form.

One element where I think they could have done more is the door mounted subwoofers. They just look a little too agro in this car. A black speaker grille with a minimal chrome bezel would have been perfect.

The only thing that bothers me about the steering wheel is the spokes seem to wrap around the rim of the wheel. Comfort might be an issue.

I thought the interior in the new Mini was pretty cool untill I sat in it. If there is an interior that can be defined as "over styled" that car, and the hummer H2 epitomize it. The designers just did not know where to stop. The interior in the hummer also feels very cheap for a $60K vehicle IMO.

I like the steering wheel but I'm not a huge fan of all the aluminum. But I figure that's why they make aftermarket stuff. I don't like it....meh no biggie I'll change it. And who knows maybe by the time I can afford to change it I'll grow to like it.

I agree that the door-mounted woofers look out of place. They look like aftermarket stuff to me. As far as the aluminium dash goes, I seem to recall that it will be optional as part of an interior upgrade package. Not sure if that is just for the V6, or if it is standard on the GT.

I think it is too retro. Kind of like the T-bird and look where that went. The dealers can't sell the leftovers. I like the new styling but I think we lost the Mustang.

I like the current cars interior design (pre 2005), its just the materials they use are cheap and crappy.

I think the new interior is great. Less retro than the current model. I mean really, how many interior designs do you think are available that will actually look good. Ford went out on a limb with the 96 Taurus and people hated it. They actually had to subdue it some. Now that the 05 interior is out for us to see, I have been impressed. Its functional, great looking, modern in appearance with stylish cues from proven designs. and not to forget more roomy.

I must be screwed in the head becasue I cant find a thing I dont like visually about this car. It's actually got me addicted to surfing the internet for info every chance I get. No other car has ever had this effect on be with just looks alone. I have fallen in love with it and have not even driven it yet.

The interior of the Tbird is NOT Retro, It's the Lincoln LS interior with a few inserts and badges.

The '05 quality will be better, but I don't like the design, maybe it will grow on me. It looks too 80's, it is a lot better than the concept interior. I'd love it if the new F-150 or GTO interior was in the new Stang. I like the new Acura TL intreior too. Hopfully the '05 stang interior will grow on my once I get a chance to sit in it.

Ford can try to improve on the steering wheel. I like the steering wheel, but the only thing which I don't like about it is the center part of it where the shaft of the steering column begins. The center cap is too big. It would be nice if Ford could bring back the rim blow steering wheel or the ones which the 65-66 Mustangs had with the holes inside the spokes. They would look much nicer if they were put on the 2005 Mustang.

Retro exterior (yes), modern interior (somewhat).

Obviously I'd like to reserve judgement till I'm actually behind the wheel and utilizing the interior space.

But if I were to just go by the photos alone...

Yes, not to keen on the steering wheel.
Not to keen on the head rests either.
The center panel where the emergency brake is located could've used some of that brushed aluminum touches as well.

The "center cap" contains an airbag. Probably a huge feat of engineering to try to make it smaller than it is now. I think it looks ok.

DITTO! I feel exactly the same way. The black and red leather interior drives me nuts...just love it.

If I had one I'd sandblast that aluminum and paint it flat black. I think that'd help alot. The steering wheel isn't horrible, pretty goofy though. My only real problem with the outside is the rear quater windows. I know they have to be there for visibility, but they are realy ugly and awkward.
