2008 Camaro..

Has anyone seen the cover of recent mags. like Car and Driver with the new concept Camaro?

Now, I'm a Ford Mustang guy. But, like alot of you, I'm also a car fanatic. The new retro body is alot like a '69. It looks pretty good. The front kinda looks like the new roadster Cadillac to me.

Anyway, I'm just throwing it out there.

Again GM enters a market (throw back cars) late as usual. This is why they are in deep financial trouble. They are following everyone else instead of leading.

They are also copying cars since they can not make there own engineering style.

HHR total PT Cruiser copy cat.
H3 total Jeep Commander knock off.
Impala is a Ford Taurus look a like.

The Camaro is nice but Chrysler will dominate the throw back car market. The Barret-Jackson auctions have made them even more popular. I'd buy an 08 lime green Hemi-Challenger over a Camaro any day.

I'm going with Joe on this one.
I don't mind the Camaro, but it didn't stun me like a few other cars have in recent past. I just think it's another money hole Chevy is getting themselves involved in.

I don't know why they didn't take this 6 year opportunity and build something completely badass... something NEW, completely unrelated to anything else, with 400 horse and a price tag around $35.

They need a new style. New... I can't stress that enough.
New.

Man I completely agree. I first saw the impala on the cover of motor trend (The issue was in the bathroom at my buddies house lol). It figures I first saw the new Impala while taking a crap. That thing is ugly. An EXACT COPY of a taurus.

The new camaro looks like an RX-8. The lines of the car are to high IMO.

And the HHR is horrible. At least when Chevy copied the mustang, they were coping something good lol. They went and made a copy of a PT-Loser.

You guys are dead on with the impala being a taurus. I dont think the camaro looks like a RX-8...yea it has similar design features in terms of how the lines flow from the front to back, but the roof line, the front end and rear end look much different IMO.

Time will only tell if the camaro is "too late". I think if they have competitive pricing with a good product, the camaro can compete. I think that was their downfall with the F-body's from the past.

Stock camaro(although we dont know the exact look yet) vs stock mustang....i would have to say camaro. BUT, with some of the body kits out there...with some wheels....and boy o boy the Stang can look DAMN good. I just HATE the way they look factory with a PASSION

you do have to remember though that the mustang was much more radical in concept form than it is now in production. chevy will have to do the same thing for camaros to sell, tame them down to appeal to more of the market. having said that, who knows what the camaro will actually look like when released and i'd have to take the mustang, not only because i wouldnt want to join the "dark side", but also because i know what i got when i get it... and its here now, not 3 years from now...

really?

I thought compared to the concept, the actual car release was REALLY close. The only major difference being the fog lamps... and a bit of a smoother side panel. But compared to what I've seen in the past, not just in regards to ford, but other companies... i'd be surprised to see much change from the concept camaro and the actual production model.

Another difference is the tail lights...and interior i think. They arent as "fancy". Just like the camaro's tail lights will probably be toned down. But just the body lines of the camaro are better than the stang IMO. Thats just in stock form though

I just saw a new Impala on the road the other day, and I agree they're the ugliest Impala yet.

My first impression of the new Camaro was , but after seeing some more angles I think it looks ok. I really don't like the front end, but the rest of the car actually looks pretty good.

The only GM product I would actually consider buying right now is the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice(or Vette, of course ). Everything else is ugly, IMO....Then again, Ford's not that much better ATM.

I FLUGGIN HATE how chevy's new design with all their cars has those gay headlights that go up at a slant, it looks nothing like the old camaros head lights. i think chevy's headlight design on their new vehicles is so retarted IMO

Pictures dont do the Camaro show car justice. It looks darn good in person. Here it is at the Detroit auto show (NAIAS).

I think GM's downfall will be, once again, over shooting (too much performance without a sorority girl friendly V6 package). The previous F body failed, IMHO, because it was too stiff, low, etc. for the mass market. Plus they were too friggin expensive. If they came in $5000 below the Mustang, then they would kill. But they won't.

the price is key. if they offer an entry level V8 for $25k i will go back to GM. The drivetrain/suspension have and most likely will be far superior to Ford's, and that is what i care about. i would MUCH rather have an LS2 than a stupid 3v 4.6--or 4v 5.4 for that matter. I give ford a big giant thumbs down on the new stang.

The new Camaro and all the olds ones will suffer from the same price problems: the base price will be almost reasonable, but GM will make you spend thousands more in options that come standard on most other vehicles.

GM is notorious for having the biggest options list for almost every one of their cars. For crying out loud, intermitent wipers should NOT be an option.

IF GM sold the concept camaro without any changes cosmetically, I'd buy it ASAP with the right powerplant. Sadly, it will be very different in reality when production comes around.

You take the new Camaro LS2 .... I'll take the new blown modular 5.4 4V they're talking about (even though I like pushods better). I'll smoke you all day long. But yeah, the LS2 is definitely better than the 3V 4.6 in the GT's.

I think the new Camaro, like always, will be a decent powered, non-handling, ugly, over-priced, heavy boat. And those mirrors [LMAO] ..... leave it to GM to create those. Isn't the point of a mirror to be able to see behind you? I'm not just cracking on GM here, either. I am die hard Ford now, but I'd still take the Challenger over the Camaro & Mustang. I just love that car.

stock for stock will depend on the weight of the new slomaro. guys are making BIG power with the LS2. hell guys are hittin 500rwhp in the LS1--n/a.

all they have to do is come in at 3500lbs(4th gen weight) and it will be a drivers race. LS2=alum engine. 5.4=iron block/heavy ass heaton/lotsa intercooler crap.

The gauges and interior lights gotta go. i doo like the center console, the 4 gauges and the rounded dash... the front end needs work too.

Officially, GM developed this as a design concept - with no commitment to actually build it. They want to test interest and reaction first. Then decide to either build or shelve the name for another 5 years. And it seems IMHO that all concept cars have silly and unpractical whims like those dinky mirrors and the FUGLY dash lights.

The Mustang show car was much closer to production because Ford already had the model in production and so the show car was developed with the intention of being production ready.

GM... well GM has become a company of designing cars for corporate fleets. Their designs do not inspire any more. Aside from the Corvette, which is beautiful, when have you seen a GM drive by and whip your neck around to catch it? I haven't either. I am still in shock they cancelled the Trans/Am, which was pretty damn cool, and replaced it with an over-grown Grand Prix of a GTO. It doesn't matter how much better it performs then other vehicles, its ugly. And anyone who wants to buy a car doesn't want to drive an ugly one. This Camaro is too little too late. AND BRING BACK THE DAMN GRAND NATIONAL!

I think the most stlyish company around is Chrysler. They have the best handle on the retro market and they aren't afraid to take chances. If they can stop producing 4100 plus pound vehicles and start stuffing that big HP Hemi into their lighter, cooler looking cars, watch out.
