Last year some of us did a car model build off to pass time in the winter. I am just gauging interest to see if anyone wants to do another one this year.

I found a '69 Shelby GT 500 that I never build in my basement today that I think I am going to build. I got it probably in about 1990, painted the body white, and never touched it again.

Im up for it. But it would be nice to actually see this one through. I finished my Boss5.4 up for it and nothing ever happened so i let it go. I guess everyone forgot LOL.

Here is my submission:

1969 Shellby GT500

I plan on doing it to stock specs. There is one on Ebay right now that has some good reference photos. Anybody know of a Testor's paint that is close to Grabber Yellow?

Once you have your model, snap a picture of the box and pieces (so we know it's not something you already built) and post it.

As for a deadline, it doesn't matter to me. March 1st? Would that be enough time, or too much? The deadline can always be modified. If some people are going to get one off Ebay, they will of course need time to actually get the kit.

Can I participate? I have a '67 Plymouth GTX Hemi model that I started a while ago but never finished. All I have done so far is the motor, and it's not completely done yet. If not, that's cool. I'll find a Mustang to build.

Hmmm... maybe I will try and grab one. They have a nice SN95 from Tamaya (good company, even though I know I spelled it wrong here).

I know there's an "I" in there somewhere, but I can't remember either! They used to have a nice 95 Cobra R model. I would like to find that one cheap.

That's cool with me. I have a couple non-Mustang models downstairs as well. Maybe if I finish early I will build one of those too.

I see your from CT, ever try Time Machine? They carry a lot of Tamaya (yup gonna keep on spelling it that way, too lazy to search on the net for it ) models. They are also real good quality I hear!

Never been there. Is that up in your area? I think I remember you mentioning it last year. There is a pretty good place around here that has some good stuff. He even has some older models that you only see on Ebay. I have to go there today and see if I can find yellow paint.

Tamiya is one of the best model companies on Earth....some of their models are so intricate that they rival a ship-in-a-bottle as far as detail. They make a Sierra Cosworth (very similar to my Merkur only much faster) that i'm thinking about getting. I believe it's 1/18th scale with many many parts.

Here are some progress pics of some of the things I have done the last couple days.

Sprayed some of the parts on the trees:

Painted the engine. Still needs to be touched up and finished. The bottle of Ford blue I got when I got this model is a lot darker than the actual color you see on completed engines. I think the intake is supposed to be blue, but I wanted a little color contrast.

Primed the body and wet sanded it:

Test fitting the engine. I messed up when I taped the engine bay for painting, so I have to fix it up. It was actually worse than this.
