Anyone else interested in the new Camaro? Let me start by saying I'm an American muscle car fan and not a fanboy of any one brand. I am on my 3rd Mustang, '15 prem/PP that I love. The wife really likes my car, but I'm waiting to check out the new Camaro before we upgrade her car. Thinking about getting her a new 2SS. I just don't feel like dropping 40k a car for two of the same cars. I had an '01 Z28 prior to the past two Mustangs and I have my 2nd Firebird hogging a spot in the garage, a '69 that I'm restoring.

GM is saying that the new Camaro is going to have the current Vette motor and that it will take out the new Mustang, just like every car late to the dance does to its competitors. Anyone else like what they see in the spy photos?

I mean the reveal of the car was really nice, though I can't stand that interior.

The prices are starting to get ridiculous though for hard plastic interiors :\

I'd buy a Challenger before a new Camaro.....for no other reason than looks alone.

One thing I'll give the Challenger over the Camaro and Mustang (the current vehicles) is that I feel the Chally stays the most true to the original car it was based on even with the recent facelift - it basically looks like a chubbier version of the '70s models. In contrast, the facelifted S197, S550 Mustang, and 5th gen and 6th Camaro seem to have retro as a base but have a heavy mix of modern styling trends inserted into them, the headlights being an example.

That being said, I think the Challenger suffers from being based on a platform that was basically built for a large four-door sedan (which explains the larger than normal back seats for its class) and that comes with unnecessary weight - the fact the Hellcat Challenger is even with the '13-'14 GT500s rather than outright beating those cars may have to do with the fact the power advantage is negated by the extra 400 lbs. it is lugging around. The Hellcat's straight-line acceleration is really "meh" given the amount of power it makes.

This is actually something I applaud with the Mustang and Camaro. The retro thing was fun for a minute, and I think with cars like these they should always have plenty of throwback to the originals otherwise they lose their identity, but I like that they're modern cars. At some point the Challenger is going to need more than just a new front bumper or it's going to get real boring.

I do think the challenger looks the most original retro. Yeah it's a boat.

Honestly there is a market for each and I'm happy for that. Keeps the competition going. I do hate that the prices are getting crazy though. 40k for a decent v8 model.

Well by the time you get all the required anal sensors and government brain probes in there, you end up with half the car for twice the dough.

Lemme see.... What else can we make mandatory? :chin

Airbags for teh trunk!
