A friend of mine was wondering if a 225/60R15 with a 3.5" backspace would fit on a '65 convertable without any mods. I'm fairly certain he would have no problem but not having that model myself I figured I'd ask you guys. Thanks for the help.

I had 235/60R 15's on my stock 64.5 coupe for about one day and they fit... Barely!

Can your friend test fit them first before paying for them?

Hi,
Where did you get the 3.5 B/S number? This does not sound correct.
I'm running 225X60X15 on 4.25 X 7" with great success.

I'm not sure where he's getting the wheels and tires but I'm assuming he can't test fit them since he asked.

That's the info I was given. I'm not sure the wheel width but would think a 6 or 7" wheel with a 225. I know that Weld Wheels are available with 3.5" bs but not sure if that's what he's using. I would think they would fit and I know the first gens are different than my '70 but I run 245/60R15s on the front and have no issues.

If the wheels are 6" wide, they may (barely) fit. If wider, they won't.

I think with 3.5" backspace he's going to set the fender on the tire. The wheel will be sticking out too far.
On a 15x7 wheel, 3.75" bs is about it. That puts the outer edge flush with the fender (you can't lower the car at this point). 4" or 4.25" works better.
