245/50-17 Will it fit?

I know, odd question.
I'm trying to smooth out the ride a little on my 00 GT vert.
My guess is a tiny bit more sidewall will make a big difference, without hurting performance too much.
So would a 245/50-17 tire fit (stock suspension)? Am I correct in assuming this has the same contact patch, but a little taller sidewall?

just a bigger sidewall, check out a tire size calc(google that phrase) and it will show you the difference in different aspect ratios on tires

Do you think there will be any rubbing/clearance problems?
I assume no, since people put much bigger wheels on lowered cars, and mine is stock, but you guys know way more about this stuff...

So I went to a tire calc site, and this is what it came up with:
The total diameter goes up about 1 inch.
This can't be a big deal, right?
It also states that the speedo will be 3.8% off.
So I'm assuming the car will also accelerate 4% slower, but have 4% better mileage?

i dont think the acceleration and mpg will be so linear. it shouldnt do anything but what you said, there is a crapload of clearance in the wheel wells. people run 28" tall tires on these cars problem free

I think you should do it and then write a review and take pictures. I've thought about doing this before, but never got beyond the thought.

Biggist contributer to our harsh ride on Mustang is shock/spring. when I had my stock spring/shock, it rode like F250. then I replaced with sportline and Bilstein, and it ride 100% better.

Doesn't work like that.

You are right, the acceleration will be slower, but your gas milage will be worse if anything due to spinning larger tires. It takes more energy.

You will gail milage on the highway though once at speed. Less RPM to go 65MPH. That's about the only benefit really.

Don't expect much of a difference in ride quality though. Invest the money into a quality shock like a bilstien. Something adjustable will help out greatly.

Our tires are not what I would call "low" profile, by any means, a lot of cars that are a lot less harsh have less sidewall. The main problem is the shocks and springs.

Yep, this is one of several mods I am planning in the next few months.
#1 - Full length crossmembers under the car.
#2 - shock tower brace.
#3 - tokico 5-way adjustable shocks
#4 - tires
#5 - IRS (maybe)...

I don't want to lower the car. Any springs out there better than stock which don't lower the car?
