255's in the front

well i've got 245's on the front, on cobra r's with no problems.... but i think pre-91's had more clearance issues due to a slightly different fender style??? not too sure about that though...

I have 255s on 18x9 98 Cobra R replicas on the front of my 85 with Eibach Pro-Kit springs, Bilstein shocks and 93 spindles/brakes. At first I had a minor rubbing issue at the far throw of left hand turns (against strut tower of passenger side). I added a single small shim to each side of my steering rack rods (limit-stopper bushings), and now have absolutely no clearance issues. Just another data point. That said, if you're OK with limiting the extremes of your steering slightly, you shouldn't have any issues at all (with the addition of the aforementioned bushings), through a wide range of tire width options.

255's will be stretched on a 9" wheel. I curbed my 17X9" Cobra R's while parking in the street with 255 Goodyears. Never again will I do that combo.

My friends 90 GT has 03 Cobra 17X9's on the front with a 1/4" spacer and 275-40-R17 Goodyears. They fit and look great, but they rub on a full turn. No big deal, because my 91 notch has 17X8 Cobra wheels with 245's and they rub on a full turn as well.

Not all 255s will be stretched, all tire manufacturers build thier tires slightly different, so its a case by case basis.

Very true. Goodyears do run wider than other tires I have used such as BFG and Nitto. The Goodyear 255's were for sure stretched, but 10mm less than a 245 Goodyear.

What brand did you order?

i got kuhmo spt 255/40/17s upfront on some 03 cobra wheels. they dont look stretched at all. the rims do rub the control arms on full lock turns. heres a pic.
