does anyone have pics of a 275/40/17 on an 8" wheel. i was thinking of going with a 245/45/17 on the front and a 275/40/17 on the rear, but i am concerned that the 275 will be too wide on the 8" wheel...

275 40 17 on an 8 inch rim

With standard air pressure contact patch is the same as my 255 40 17 on an 8 inch rim

But they sure do look bigger even if you don't gain much foot print

I would recommend you get a wider rim if you are looking at these for eveyday use or save your money and just run the slightly smaller tire since it will have the same contact patch. I only run the 275s because they are Drag radials and the compound and low pressure gives me a gain.

Also depends on the manufacturer. a nitto 275 is smaller than average, and a BFG 275 is larger than others.

I'm not sure about all manufacturers, but most recommend a 9" wheel for a 275 tire. I'm running 275 40 17 Goodyear tires on the same wheels you have in your sig nugget, but the backs are 9" wide from AFS.

From what I've heard, a 255 series tire is sort of an in between size so it usually ends up costing more than a 275. However, new wheels AND new tires will cost significantly more than just new tires.

thanks guys for the pics...i already have the wheels and was looking into what size tires. i have the late model mach 1's like in the photochop sig. i thought about 255/40/17, but they are probably too wide for the front and ion order to get the profiles on the front and rear the same i would have to go with like a 225 on the front and i want something wider than that. looks to me like the 275 will be ok on the 8" wheel by those pics...

hey gailahan, do you have any pics of your car with the wheels?

Sorry, I don't have any pics yet. I would really be afraid of the tire seperating from the wheel which would be extremely unsafe. It might be okay for some 275 tires to fit on 8" wheels, but not all tires are created equal. Make sure you check what size wheel range the manufacturer recommends for the tire. Also, talk to the guys at Tire Rack , they know what they're talking about.

If you run a 5 leaf mid eye spring it should be fine. You will need to "massage" the inner front corner and roll the lips.

I havent seen nor heard of a tire comming off a wheel and everybody first bitched about me saying the tires will fit when i put them on . Is it the "optimum" size"? Probably not, but it will fit as will as 285 too.Tire rack reads wheel chart like the rest of us do, they arent thet well trained in wheel/tire fitments.

ISKWEZM-- "If you run a 5 leaf mid eye spring it should be fine. You will need to "massage" the inner front corner and roll the lips".

I was wondering when you rolled yours and your buddies fender lips how went about doing it? Did you cut slits in the lip and hammer it under and weld it to the inside or did you use a "baseball bat" (or similar) and use the tire as a leverage point? I've heard of both of theses ways working. I understand that the slitting and welding will possibly burn the paint off the fender but that is not a consern because its getting new paint.

Does anyone know of some sudle fender flares?.... cause im looking into that also.
thanks!!!

a baseball bat really doesnt work, or didnt for me, it compressed the tire and didnt put enough force on the lip. My buddy's i cut slits and then used a 2 lb hammer. His car is primered, so the paint wasnt a issue. The guy who painted it talked me into cutting the lips back, so it left 1/4",bad idea, now theres nothing left to roll and has a sharp edge.Mine is lower then what a 5 leaf does, since they are some of the older shelby leafs with 1 1/2" drop.So mine rubs, but i have Shockwaves in the rear to raise it when i want.

225/45 front, 275/40 rear. Im running .800" spacer up front, and 1" in the rear, but i am planning on having the rears widened 1" inboard, since they fit without a spacer.
